About The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Accounting Manager to join our rapidly growing organization. In this role, you will be tasked with building a best-in-class accounting function that can adapt, grow, and meet the changing needs of the organization as it evolves. You will also collaborate with other accounting team members and manage a staff accountant.
On this small but high-impact team, you will serve as the primary owner of the general ledger and expense management functions and assist directly with all aspects of day-to-day financial activities and monthly reporting. You will partner to build, implement, maintain, and support accounting processes, systems, and internal controls to streamline operations, mitigate risk, and improve financial reporting to aid in better decision-making and transparency.
This role reports to our Senior Director, Controller, and can be based anywhere in the continental US.
What You'll Do:
- Oversee and manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and the general ledger
- Lead the month-end close process for the general ledger and expenses, ensuring accurate journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis
- Lead month-end consolidations, including inter-company transactional processing, allocations, and eliminations; provide strategic support for annual management fee analysis
- Review monthly consolidated financial statements and ensure accurate and timely internal and external reporting
- Prepare technical accounting research, including researching alternatives, documenting facts, and implementing recommendations and conclusions
- Assist with the implementation of new accounting standards and manage documentation of internal controls over financial reporting to ensure audit readiness and process integrity
- Assist with tax and compliance filings for multiple entities
- Partner with finance team members and cross-functional stakeholders to build and support accounting systems, offering recommendations to automate and leverage AI to drive efficiencies and scale
- Collaborate closely with the FP&A team on budgeting and forecasting to align accounting actuals with future growth targets
- Manage a Staff Accountant, including oversight of day-to-day responsibilities and long-term career development
- Collaborate and provide support to business owners as needed for ad hoc analyses and projects
Who You Are:
- You have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of experience working on an accounting team, ideally at a rapidly growing, early-stage company
- Experience managing and mentoring a team
- Excellent attention to detail and strong, collaborative analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Desire to learn and develop your skill set to take on more responsibility and a diverse set of tasks/ experiences
- Willing to roll up your sleeves and figure things out. Driven by understanding and building systems and processes
- Experience with ERP systems and proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite)
- Extra credit:
- Active CPA
- Big 4 experience
- Understanding of Friendly PC model and implications for accounting processes and controls

Compensation
Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our company’s size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Pomelo Care. In accordance with New York City, Colorado, California, and other applicable laws, Pomelo Care is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity. Given that this role is open to candidates of different skill levels, determining a salary range is challenging. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $125,000 to $145,000. We expect most candidates to fall in the middle of the range. We also believe that your personal needs and preferences should be taken into consideration, so we allow some choice between equity and cash.
