Key Responsibilities:
- Database Installation and Configuration: Install and configure database software and environments, working closely with DevOps to ensure it’s done through IaC.
- Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor database performance and optimize queries, indexing, and storage. Manage database resources, including memory, CPU, and disk I/O, to ensure efficient operation.
- Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement backup strategies to protect data against loss or corruption. Test the recoveries and business continuity methods.
- Security Management: Access controls, encryption standards, compliance and governance.
- Database Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks such as database cleanup, reorganization, and version upgrades. Oversee data migration projects, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime during the process.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance problems and data corruption.
- Support: Provide support to Engineering for database-related queries and problems. Advise on schema design and data modelling. Be a source of best practices for all things Databases.
Key Requirements:
- 7+ year's experience in a similar role
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Excellent RDBMS knowledge in MySQL, Postgres, MS SQL or similar.
- Proven experience managing complex and large database systems
- Demonstratable experience with database observability
- Experience with databases in Public Cloud (AWS, Azure, etc)
- Experience working closely with Engineering enabling performance and optimisation
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with Engineering teams.
- Team player and able to share and receive constructive feedback
- Self starter, confident when sharing information and seeking feedback from others to deliver the best solution.
- Able to mentor others as well as seeking self-improvement
Nice to Have:
- NoSQL experience with systems such as Cassandra, DynamoDB, Keyspaces.
- Demonstrable experience with database storage engines such as InnoDB, MyISAM, MEMORY/HEAP
- Experience analyzing data models.
- Demonstrable experience working on a SaaS environment.
- Experience working closely with DevOps/Infrastructure to manage change.
- Comfortable with DevOps / Agile processes
