Solutions Engineer

Seattle, WA

About UnCruise Adventures

We are a small-ship adventure-based travel company dedicated to creating experiences that connect people with nature, wildlife, and local cultures - we kayak among icebergs, travel to hidden waterfalls, and share air with whales. Every team member plays a role in bringing the adventure to life. Operating seven vessels carrying 22 to 86 guests, we explore destinations, including Alaska, Hawaii, Baja California, and Costa Rica.

Job Summary

We're looking for a Solutions Engineer who loves diverse technologies to help modernize and support UnCruise's growing IT ecosystem. This is not your typical desk job, you'll go everywhere from a boat bridge to a boardroom.

The first major project for this role is a complete overhaul of our Microsoft 365 environment: rebuilding our SharePoint architecture and file structure, fixing user access and permissions, and putting real governance around how employees and outside guests share documents, while keeping everything properly locked down. From there, this person will be equipped to handle a wide range of ad hoc systems issues and projects across the company, both onboard our vessels and in our office.

Resourcefulness is essential in this role. You should be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly, and have the patience to communicate with users across a wide range of technical skill levels.

You'll join a growing IT department that's actively expanding its capabilities, with real input into how this role evolves as our needs grow. We look for people who can move fluidly across problems rather than staying narrowly in one lane.   If you are the kind of person who approaches an unfamiliar problem with a plan instead of hesitation, you'll do well here.

This full-time, exempt position reports to the IT Team Lead and is based at our Seattle, WA office at Fishermen's Terminal. Travel to our vessel locations (Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, and other destinations) may be required.

Essential Duties – M365 & SharePoint Modernization and Maintenance

  • Lead the overhaul of our Microsoft 365 environment, rebuilding SharePoint architecture, file structure, and permissions governance across the organization.
  • Own user access management for SharePoint sites and Teams channels, including how documents are shared securely with employees and outside guests.
  • Administer M365 tenant-level configuration, Entra, Intune, and Defender policy settings.
  • Drive modernization of SharePoint management and own related user training.
  • Build and maintain a lightweight data dictionary or documentation of key metrics/definitions used across dashboards, so reporting stays consistent as ownership changes hands.
  • Create and manage user resource documentation (internal wiki/knowledge base).
  • Upgrade systems with new releases and models; train staff on new technologies.
  • Monitor and maintain network health.

Essential Duties – System Support

  • Monitor integrations between current CRM systems
  • Develop and manage system improvements through project planning, coordination, training, and promotion of new features.
  • Create new reporting capabilities across multiple databases and respond to ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Promote standardization of business processes across teams and systems to support data integrity.
  • Produce documentation on processes, policies, application configuration, and help materials.
  • Back up and assist with revenue department systems and functions as needed.
  • Partner with Finance, Sales & Marketing, and IT leadership to define what metrics matter and how they should be tracked over time.
  • Assist the VP of Finance and other departments with development of analytic and reporting tools, including dashboards.
  • Leverage Microsoft's Power Platform (PowerApps, Power BI, Dataverse) to automate tasks across teams.

Qualifications

  • BSc/BA in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role.
  • Hands-on M365 administration experience, including Entra ID, Intune, and Microsoft Defender security policies.
  • Experience with SharePoint architecture, governance, and permissions management.
  • Experience managing databases
  • Salesforce Administrator credentials, or strong CRM administration experience.
  • Hands-on experience with integration and automation between systems, using REST APIs, Microsoft's Power Platform, Mulesoft, or similar toolkits.
  • Experience with SQL or similar query-based data manipulation a plus.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based tools and networks, with a preference for Azure and the Office 365 toolkit.
  • Basic understanding of network concepts (VLANs, policy management); experience with SD-WAN or the Unifi ecosystem a plus.
  • Tenacious desire to “Be Better” and never stop learning.
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude; comfortable moving at the speed of business.
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills, with patience for users across a wide range of technical skill levels.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Must be able to work in a standard office environment with sitting, typing, and writing for 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to lift and move electronics and equipment (<30 lbs.), enter crawl spaces on vessels, climb multiple flights of stairs, and work under desks.
  • Occasional work onboard vessels locally or in remote locations, which may require climbing a gangway, or ladder, boarding a skiff and navigating a vessel under construction.
