Research Associate

Postpartum Support International (PSI) works to promote awareness, prevention, and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing. PSI supports families, provides expert training to providers, and creates a bridge between families and informed resources. PSI disseminates information and resources through its volunteers, website, training, chapters, and annual conference. PSI board and staff are dedicated and passionate individuals committed to alleviating distress and improving outcomes for pregnant and postpartum families. PSI headquarters is in Portland, Oregon, but the position is entirely remote. PSI additionally operates the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline, a 24/7 hotline federally funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

The Research Associate role reports to the Director of Research & Impact and includes attendance at online staff and board meetings by request.

 

Terms of Contract: The weekly hours are flexible, as long as the duties of the position are met. You will be independent and self-directed using your own equipment and facility. The contract consultant position is estimated to be an average of 10 - 15 hours per week, not to exceed 20 hours/week, unless by agreement. Invoices will be completed at the end of each month and sent to the Director of Research & Impact. 

The regular pay is $25/hour, paid via electronic direct deposit or Bill.com upon receipt of the invoice.

Literature Reviews & Evidence Synthesis

  • Conduct rapid and comprehensive literature reviews on perinatal mental health and related topics in accordance with the Research & Citation Policy.
  • Identify, evaluate, and summarize peer-reviewed research, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and clinical guidelines in accordance with the Research & Citation Policy.
  • Develop evidence summaries and research briefs for PSI staff and leadership.
  • Maintain organized records of literature searches, citations, and source materials.

Statistics & Research Support

  • Identify accurate, up-to-date statistics to support communications, educational materials, fundraising, advocacy, and program development.
  • Verify the accuracy of research findings, prevalence estimates, and commonly cited statistics before dissemination.
  • Assist in maintaining PSI's internal research repository and evidence resources.

Research Translation & Communications

  • Translate scientific findings into clear, accessible language for diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, donors, volunteers, and families.
  • Draft research-informed summaries, talking points, FAQs, fact sheets, and evidence briefs.
  • Support the development of research-informed content for newsletters, social media, educational programs, presentations, and public-facing materials.
