A day in the life:

The Finance Associate will directly support the VP of Finance & Strategy and Finance Manager on various workstreams within the Finance Team.  This role will serve as the main analytical resource for the Finance Team, acting as a right hand to the VP and Finance Manager for recurring tasks such the monthly churn / retention analysis along with longer term projects such as annual budgeting and department deep dives.  Further, the Finance Associate is expected to have excellent communication skills, possess the ability to “tell a story with numbers'' and explain financial concepts to audiences outside of the Finance and Accounting Teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a full understanding of Power’s financial model, including the ability to articulate the 5-pillars that drive Company performance, the projection methodology and process for making daily updates to each 
  • Each year, alongside VP of Finance & Strategy and Finance Manager, develop Power’s annual budget
    • Work with key stakeholders throughout the organization to determine appropriate inputs and assumptions
    • Present updates to Executive Team on budget progression
    • Develop slides to present iterations of annual budget to Executive and Senior Leadership teams  
  • Complete deep dive analysis of various departments within of Power to determine whether said department is operating as efficiently and cost effectively as possible
    • Initially, these types of projects will be assigned to the Candidate, with the goal of this becoming proactive on part of the Candidate in the future
  • Creation of slides to explain various analyses, projects, etc. to audiences outside of the Finance and Accounting Teams
  • Identify outdated, inefficient and / or broken processes within our organization and work with key stakeholders to develop an action plan and solution  

Role Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience in an Investment Banking or Transaction Services / Advisory role
  • Excellent analytical / problem solving skills, with strong attention to detail
  • BA / BS in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or other relevant degrees
  • Ability to work with unstructured data to derive insights on business performance
  • Self-starter who is able to take on and completely own new projects 
  • Strong communication skills, EQ and ability to work in collaboration with the Executive Team, VP leadership team and staff members of varying experience levels
  • Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, accountability-driven environment 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel 
  • Ideal candidate is based in Southern California, though all geographies within the U.S. will be considered

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Mastery of Power’s Financial Model by End of 9/30/2024
    • Achieve a proficiency score of at least 85% on a standardized assessment of Power's financial model by 9/30/2024
    • Utilize the financial model to prepare a draft annual budget, demonstrating its effectiveness and accuracy, by 10/31/2024
  • Timely Delivery of Monthly Analyses (e.g., Churn)
    • Deliver monthly churn analysis reports by the end of the third week of each following month with a 100% on-time delivery rate
    • Ensure that each monthly analysis report is reviewed and accepted by the Finance Manager / VP of Finance & Strategy with no more than two iterations for approval
    • Achieve an accuracy rate of 95% or higher on the data presented in the monthly analyses, verified through random audits
  • Completion of Multiple “Deep Dive” Projects (e.g., Sales, Nova) by End of Year
    • Complete a minimum of two in-depth analysis projects (including Sales and Nova) by 12/31/2024
    • Each deep dive project should result in a detailed Excel report and supporting slides, including insights, recommendations, and action plans, and be presented to the relevant members of the Senior Leadership Team.
    • Each deep dive project should be approved by the project sponsor and result in actionable items, with at least 75% of the recommendations implemented within three months of project completion

Most Important Things (MITs)

  • Mastery of Power Digital financial model
    • Candidate is expected to fully understand Power’s financial model and forecast methodology by the end of Q3, providing the foundation for annual budgeting exercise
  • Timely delivery of assigned tasks
    • Once Candidate has been onboarded, it is expected that they will deliver the various required monthly analyses in a timely manner, as the outputs of these analyses are reported to the Executive Team and Board
  • Ability to tell a story with numbers
    • Candidate is expected to be proficient in PowerPoint / Google Slides and excel at telling a quantitative story to an audience without an Accounting or Finance background
