A day in the life:

The Head of Development oversees the web development division, through managing the people, as a coach, leader, mentor, problem-solver and do-er. While ensuring maintenance of the highest level of product quality across the team, they play a critical role in ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and within capabilities across the team. This person is the go-to for “escalation” related items as they pertain to clients and internal team members, jumping in to support, coach, do and mentor, while ensuring client retention, employee retention and product quality metrics remain healthy

 

Responsibilities:

  • Escalation Support: As head of development, you will support team members and account teams to problem solve any challenges that may be present at an account and/or personnel level. This may include: development tasks alongside account dev lead to coach and train, face to face time with clients, troubleshooting challenges, and ensuring sentiment returns to health before stepping out
  • Team Management: Manage the people and processes within the development team. Responsible for team organization, and ensuring that the team meets project goals and deadlines
  • Leadership and Coaching: You will focus on developing their team members’ skills, fostering a collaborative and motivated work environment, and supporting their professional growth
  • Stakeholder Communication: Main point of contact between the development team and non-technical stakeholders. They translate technical concepts into business terms and provide updates on project status
  • Scoping of New Projects: Ability to properly scope new business opportunities, with proper allocation around resource management and ideation, timelines and team capabilities 
  • Performance Management: They are responsible for conducting performance reviews, setting goals, and providing feedback to team members. They help individuals on the team align their work with broader organizational goals
  • Resource Allocation: Development managers hire and allocate resources, both human and technical, to ensure projects are adequately staffed and supported, in coordination with Head of Operations
  • Employ AI technologies to enhance and optimize business processes
  • Utilize and leverage Power Digital's Nova ecosystem as it relates to your department

 

Role Requirements:

  • Educational Background: A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. A solid technical foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of software development
  • Technical Expertise: A strong technical background can be advantageous. Development Managers who can understand and communicate with their technical team members more effectively tend to be more successful
  • Leadership and Management Skills: Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills are crucial. Development Managers need to inspire, guide, and support their team to achieve project goals
  • New Business / Sales Experience: Experience scoping out new projects for net-new clients, and properly allocating timelines and resources designated to those projects
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are vital for interacting with team members, stakeholders, and other departments within the organization
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Development Managers should be adept at identifying and solving problems that arise during the development process, whether they're technical, process-related, or interpersonal
  • Strategic Thinking: The ability to align software development efforts with organizational goals and strategies is important for contributing to the company's overall success
  • Business Acumen: Understanding the business context and how software development contributes to the company's objectives is essential for making informed decisions
  • Adaptability: The software development landscape is always evolving. A Development Manager should be adaptable and open to learning new technologies, tools, and methodologies
  • Experience: Previous experience in a technical leadership role, such as a team lead or senior developer. Experience in managing software development projects and teams demonstrates the candidate's ability to handle the responsibilities of the role
  • Language Proficiency: Bilingual- English and Spanish are required

    • Account retention across accounts where escalation support is needed

    • Improvement in team members' technical skills over time.
    • Identifying 1-2 skill level up opportunities across the team per quarter, rolling our appropriate trainings to ensure teams are continually growing
