
Development Manager
Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression. Housed in a purpose-built-facility in Brooklyn, the organization hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the well-being of artists and the communities to which they serve. Our new facilities house fabrication services, production services, production spaces, and member workshops for artisans. In 2025, PHA expects to welcome in thousands of patrons as the building becomes a center for art and performance. Over the next few years, PHA will see growth and expansion in all areas of business and an increased focus on revenue generation.
PHA is seeking a Development Manager who will be a fundamental member of the growing Development team. In 2025, PHA expects to welcome in thousands of new patrons and visitors as the building becomes a dynamic center for art exhibitions, happenings, and performances.
Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Manager will play a vital role in the activation of a robust development strategic plan, overseeing the management of individual giving, cultivation of special events, and overall development efforts and operations. The individual will own the moves management system: identifying, researching, tracking, and cultivating prospects, specifically focused on increasing individual donors and collectors. The Development Manager will orchestrate monthly moves management meetings with the development team, President, and corporate consultant, and with executive leadership and events team. The individual will coordinate special events throughout the year, including supporting in producing the annual fundraising benefit dinner, to steward and engage committed donors, board members, and partners.
The ideal candidate is deeply engaged with the arts and cultural communities and committed to developing meaningful individual relationships and partnerships for an exciting and ambitious nonprofit organization. The development team is working ambitiously and creatively to raise diversified streams of support across the organization in alignment with the PHA’s strategic objectives, mission, and vision.
Responsibilities:
Development Management
- Support the Development Director in reaching individual and annual giving revenue goals.
- Oversee the introduction of new annual fund and membership campaigns.
- Prepare gift solicitations with input and support from the Development Director.
- Oversee gift receiving, processing, and recording in support of development and finance.
- Manage department expense tracking and participate in quarterly budget meetings with finance.
- Craft written communications and marketing collateral for donor mailings and solicitations, membership materials, newsletters, event invitations, sponsorship proposals & decks, annual reports, and acknowledgment correspondence.
Development Special Events Management
- Manage development’s calendar of cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events.
- Coordinate logistics for quarterly special events such as receptions, studio visits, and offsite tours for PHA Patrons, donors, and board members with collaborating artists and partners.
- Assist in producing all PHA’s fundraising events, including the annual Artists Celebration Dinner and Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair VIP Opening Benefit: Oversee communications, fundraising events budget, and event logistics in support of the Development Director and Events operations team.
- Manage VIP lists for contemporary art fairs, PHA-hosted fairs and events, and organize cultivation events with cultural partners around select fairs and exhibitions.
Database & Moves Management
- Manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects: Identify, research, cultivate, and advance solicitations for contributed income, Patrons, and special events.
- Support the Development Director in nurturing individual donor and board relationships.
- Organize monthly development moves management meetings.
- Track prospects and donors in PHA’s CRM and run wealth screenings.
- Participate in CRM-specific and Development-focused webinars trainings.
Other Responsibilities:
- Schedule meetings and tours for donors and prospects.
- Greet guests, escort them to meeting locations, and provide tours and hospitality as needed.
- Co-supervise Development Intern with the Institutional Giving Manager.
- Work some events that may take place outside working hours.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in training sessions.

- 4+ years of relevant work experience in a similar role.
- Experience managing donor groups, developing special events, and fundraising campaigns.
- Familiarity with contemporary artists, galleries, and organizations and art market knowledge.
- Knowledge of NYC philanthropy, social, and art circles, and major supporters of the arts.
- Finger on the pulse of current fundraising trends, best practices, and resources.
- Proactive, creative, positive, and resourceful problem solver and communication.
- Possess sound judgment, candor, diplomacy, empathy, and discretion in donor relations.
- Comfortable engaging with people, cultivating relationships, and facilitating solicitations.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work well autonomously, with and across internal teams, and with external partners.
- Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills.
- Proficient in donor CRM management and communications software.
- Experience with gift tracking, acknowledgment, and reporting.
- Passionate about PHA’s mission.
- Experience with Adobe Design Suite preferred.
- Prepared to work onsite in Brooklyn, NY, 3 days hybrid optional, some external event hours.
Compensation & Benefits: Salary range is $72,000 - $82,000 and commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, an employer-sponsored retirement plan, generous paid vacation, and a Citibike membership.
