
Fabrication & Installation Specialist
Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression. Housed in a purpose-built-facility in Brooklyn, the organization hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the well-being of artists and the communities to which they serve. Our new facilities house fabrication services, production services, production spaces, and member workshops for artisans. In 2025, PHA expects to welcome in thousands of patrons as the building becomes a center for art and performance. Over the next few years, PHA will see growth and expansion in all areas of business and an increased focus on revenue generation.
Powerhouse Arts is seeking a highly skilled Fabrication & Installation Specialist to join the Public Art department. Reporting to the Director of Public Art, the Fabrication & Installation Specialist will work collaboratively with the Public Art team to fabricate artwork of all types and sizes at public squares, galleries, museums, parks, and building commons.
Responsibilities:
- Artwork fabrication, in-shop and on-site, corresponding to specialty
- Assemble, troubleshoot, and stage artwork
- Coordinate with team members to ensure that fabrication and installations are completed on schedule
- Pack, handle, install, deinstall, clean, and document artwork and equipment
- Prepare, clean, and organize shops, work areas, and exhibition sites
- Load and unload vehicles
- Travel to exhibition sites
- Conduct equipment and materials procurement research and occasional errands
- Complete timesheets, project logs, and special training as needed
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others
- Execute any of the above tasks outdoors, as needed
- Management reserves the right to revise these responsibilities or to require other/different tasks be performed as institutional circumstances change
Qualifications:

- 2-years fabrication and shop experience in welding and carpentry
- Experience using any kind of lift (forklift, scissor-lift, boom-lift, etc.)
- Works well in teams and independently
- Patient with the artistic process of discovery
- Detail-oriented, spatially-aware, fastidious, and communicative
Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions
- Work on tall ladders, scaffolding, and lifts, with proper safety training and equipment
- Maneuver large and heavy objects with proper assistance and proper tools
- Safely lift a 50-pound tote-bin without assistance
- Visit sites and buildings that have stairs
- Use public transportation

Compensation & Benefits: Salary range is $55,000- $65,000 and commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, an employer-sponsored retirement plan, generous paid vacation, and a Citibike membership. Some weekend and evening hours will be requested where needed during special projects.
