Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Transmission Builder to join our team, specializing in GM 6L90 and Ford 6R80 automatic transmissions. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in diagnosing, disassembling, rebuilding, and testing transmissions to factory or high-performance standards. Precision, attention to detail, and in-depth mechanical knowledge are critical for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and disassemble GM 6L90 and Ford 6R80 transmissions
- Rebuild transmissions to OEM specifications or performance upgrades
- Inspect, clean, and replace worn or damaged components
- Maintain organized and clean work area, including proper documentation of builds
- Perform quality control checks and test units to ensure functionality
- Communicate effectively with team members and shop management
- Stay current with industry standards, rebuild procedures, and technical bulletins
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
- Adhere to all safety and environmental policies
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years experience rebuilding automatic transmissions, specifically GM 6L90 and Ford 6R80 units
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics
- Familiarity with transmission testing procedures and equipment
- Must provide own basic tools; specialty tools provided
- ASE Certification (preferred but not required)
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs
- Standing, bending, and working with hands for extended periods
- Comfortable working in a shop environment with exposure to fluids and parts
Compensation Range
$30 - $36 USD
