Your Experience at Premier

Here’s what you can expect from the role, the team, and our culture:

  • Position Type: Full-time, salaried position (based on experience), plus overtime opportunities
  • Schedule & Travel: Monday–Friday, first-shift office hours with flexibility to manage your own schedule; travel up to 30% as needed for commissioning and support, with participation in an on-call rotation that may include evenings and weekends
  • Reporting Structure: Reports to the Automation Department Managers, working collaboratively with other engineers, manufacturing teams, and customers throughout each project phase
  • Interview & Onboarding Process: Combination of virtual and on-site interviews, followed by reference checks, pre-employment screening, and a physical (if applicable) before hire
  • Work Environment: Primarily office-based with a strong mix of hands-on project execution in our production shop and occasional on-site work at customer facilities

Duties and Responsibilities

As an Automation Engineer, you will:

  • Design, program, test, and commission control systems, including PLC and HMI hardware and software
  • Collaborate with customers and internal project teams to develop automation solutions that meet performance, quality, and safety requirements
  • Support the full project lifecycle from quoting and design through implementation, FAT, and SAT
  • Create control documentation, including wiring diagrams, I/O lists, and technical manuals
  • Provide on-site and remote troubleshooting support during installation, startup, and system operation
  • Coordinate with panel fabrication and field service teams to ensure design intent and technical accuracy
  • Maintain strong communication with customers to ensure expectations are met and satisfaction is achieved
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project efficiency and technical standards



Experience and Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation and controls engineering
  • Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial control systems and electrical design
  • Familiarity with system integration, testing, and commissioning processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work both independently and collaboratively
  • Willingness to travel and support on-call needs as required
  • Must have or obtain valid travel documents (Real ID and passport)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform hands-on work in a variety of environments and situations requiring moderate physical activity
