Premier Automation is hiring a Drives & Systems Field Service Technician to join our team in Monroeville, PA. We’re a full-service automation integrator specializing in custom electrical control solutions—including drives, robotics, and industrial systems—for manufacturers across North America.
We’re looking for a technician with hands-on experience working with VFDs, servo drives, and soft starters who can troubleshoot, tune, and support drive systems across multiple platforms. - Position Type: Full-time, salaried role with overtime eligibility
- Schedule & Availability: Monday–Friday during standard business hours with regular field travel; includes on-call support for field service needs, which may involve evening or weekend hours

Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot drive-related issues such as overcurrent, undervoltage, and speed fluctuation
- Tune drive parameters and optimize motor performance for various applications
- Replace, commission, and configure drives across multiple brands (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Danfoss, Schneider)
- Perform preventive maintenance and conduct thermal inspections
- Interface with automation systems to integrate drive control and feedback
- Create detailed service reports and provide performance improvement recommendations
- Serve as a key point of contact for customers during service calls, maintaining professionalism and clear communication throughout each visit
- Complete accurate service records and reports to document field service calls and provide feedback to internal teams
Experience and Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Solid understanding of VFD and servo drive fundamentals, including core motor theory
- Proficiency with software tools for drive configuration and tuning
- Knowledge of electrical wiring, sensors, and protection devices
- Skilled in electrical panel work and safe lockout/tagout procedures
- Ability to operate hand tools and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters
- Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to represent the company professionally during on-site service visits
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree in a related technical field such as Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, Robotics, or similar discipline strongly preferred
- Hands-on experience working with drives from multiple manufacturers (e.g., ABB, Yaskawa)
- Drive commissioning certifications (if applicable)
- 3+ years of experience in an electrical or drive-focused service role
