Premier Automation is hiring an Automation Field Service Technician to join our team in Monroeville, PA. We’re a full-service automation integrator specializing in custom electrical control solutions—including robotics, drives, and industrial systems—for manufacturers across North America.
We’re looking for a technician with strong PLC and HMI experience who enjoys problem-solving in real-world environments and can work both independently and as part of a field support team.
In this role, you’ll troubleshoot and maintain industrial automation systems—including PLCs, HMIs, drives, and SCADA. You’ll commission new systems, perform software updates, and interface with robotic equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation for our customers.

Job Details and Perks for an Automation Field Service Technician:
- Position Type: Full-time, salaried role with overtime eligibility
- Schedule & Availability: Monday–Friday during standard business hours with regular field travel; includes on-call support for field service needs, which may involve evening or weekend hours
- Reporting Structure: Reports to the General Manager of Automation and the Service & Sales Manager

Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Diagnose and repair automation system faults, including PLC ladder logic and I/O issues
- Modify, upload, and troubleshoot PLC programs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.)
- Configure and support HMI and SCADA systems
- Perform system backups, firmware updates, and detailed documentation
- Interface with drives, sensors, and robotic equipment to ensure full system functionality
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
- Serve as a key point of contact for customers during service calls, maintaining professionalism and clear communication throughout each visit
- Complete accurate service records and reports to document field service calls and provide feedback to internal teams
Experience and Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of PLC programming and industrial control systems
- Experience with SCADA systems and communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and control panel layouts
- Familiarity with industrial networking and signal tracing
- Ability to operate standard hand tools and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters
- Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to represent the company professionally during on-site service visits
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree in a related technical field such as Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, Robotics, or similar discipline strongly preferred
- Proficiency in TIA Portal, Studio 5000, or RSLogix software
- Certification in industrial automation, controls, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing or process automation environments
