Automation Intern
Develop hands-on experience in automation and control systems by applying your electrical or electro-mechanical coursework to real-world industrial projects. Premier Automation is seeking an Automation Intern to support automation and controls engineers with PLC and HMI programming, system integration, testing, commissioning, and documentation across a variety of industrial automation applications.
This internship is well suited for Electrical Engineering or Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology students who are interested in control logic, system behavior, and how automated systems are programmed, integrated, and commissioned in industrial environments. Headquartered in Monroeville, PA, Premier Automation delivers advanced automation solutions for industrial and commercial customers worldwide, providing interns with exposure to how automation systems are designed, built, tested, and supported in the field.
Internship Details
- Duration: May – August 2026
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, daytime hours
- Compensation: Competitive hourly pay based on academic year
- Location: On-site at our Monroeville, PA facility
- Travel: Occasional travel for site visits or project support may be required
- Interview Process: Virtual screening, on-site interview, and facility tour
Your Experience at Premier
- Team & Reporting: Support automation and controls engineers while collaborating with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and project teams

Key Responsibilities
- Assist automation engineers with PLC and HMI programming under guidance
- Support automation system integration, testing, and troubleshooting activities
- Participate in manufacturing checkout and commissioning preparation for automation projects
- Assist with on-site installation and startup activities at customer locations as needed
- Help create and maintain technical documentation, including system descriptions, test records, and user manuals
- Support troubleshooting efforts related to control logic, communications, and system performance
- Research automation technologies, standards, and best practices to support project development
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology (EMET), or a related technical field
- Coursework or exposure to automation, control systems, or industrial processes
- Introductory experience with PLCs, HMIs, or automation software through coursework, labs, or projects
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to perform hands-on work in shop or industrial environments, including lifting up to 50 lbs
- Prior internship, co-op, or hands-on technical experience is a plus
