Electrical Designer
Premier Automation is seeking an Electrical Designer to join our Design Assurance team. This role supports the development of accurate, practical electrical designs for custom industrial systems, with responsibilities that may include electrical schematics, control panel and cabinet layouts, design reviews, estimating, and electrical design standards. We’re open to a range of experience levels and electrical backgrounds, with opportunities to focus on schematic design, panel and cabinet design, or more advanced electrical design and engineering work based on your experience, strengths, and interests.
Headquartered in Monroeville, PA, Premier Automation provides custom industrial automation and electrical solutions for customers across a variety of industries, designing and building systems that integrate industrial controls, drives, robotics, and automation technologies. As part of the Design Assurance team, you’ll collaborate with engineering and production teams across the company to turn project requirements into high-quality electrical designs that can be successfully built and implemented.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
As an Electrical Designer, you may:
- Develop and update electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
- Select standardized electrical and control components and ensure drawings accurately reflect wire sizing, wire colors, and design requirements
- Select cabinets and enclosures based on project requirements
- Develop panel and cabinet layouts with consideration for power grouping, wiring flow, component spacing, and accessibility
- Assist with bus bar designs based on amperage, voltage, and available space
- Apply electrical theory, applicable codes, and company design standards to project designs
- Review electrical schematics, panel layouts, and related drawings for accuracy and compliance with project requirements
- Support project estimating and quoting by evaluating design requirements, equipment needs, and anticipated build labor
- Complete as-built drawings and support the design of smaller projects while developing experience with more complex systems
- Help develop and maintain preferred products, standardized components, and electrical design practices
- Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to resolve technical questions and support projects through design and production
- Support or lead larger electrical design projects based on experience and skill level
Experience and Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on electrical design or industry experience
- Understanding of electrical theory and electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Strong attention to detail and interest in solving technical design challenges
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across engineering and production teams
- Genuine interest in electrical systems and developing technical design expertise
- Willingness to learn, take on new challenges, and grow within the Design Assurance department
Preferred Experience:
- AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical experience
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards
- Experience with industrial controls, control panels, power distribution, drives, robotics, automation, or similar electrical systems
- Previous electrical design, drafting, panel design, or related engineering experience
