Position

The Residential Mortgage Associate is a key contributor in the front office investment team and actively involved in the MSR and EBO businesses as well as other strategies within the Residential Credit business.  The Associate will support the entire MSR and EBO businesses, including sourcing, pricing, bidding, settlement, financing, asset management and risk management.  The position requires interaction with multiple business units both internal and external to the firm, including transaction management, analytics, technology, lenders, subservicers and the GSEs. This position is based in the Firm’s New York office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn the business of acquiring, managing, and funding residential credit strategies
  • New investment idea generation
  • Direct communication with key external partners such as sell side institutions, lenders, subservicers, rating agencies and GSEs
  • Help with sourcing of assets, underwriting, and financing
  • Oversee transactions as they progress through the typical trade life cycle
  • Develop or design tools and processes to increase transactional throughput including
  • Apply computational methods to optimize trading, financing, and securitization strategies
  • Analyze earnings, risk, and mark to market to explain and report business performance
  • Work closely with team members in trading, operations, accounting, risk control and other departments to manage and execute portfolio strategies to achieve revenue objectives
  • Review daily risk management and hedging of the portfolios

Requirements

  • 4-year undergraduate degree or higher in economics, finance, engineering or science
  • 2 – 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Detail oriented with ability to prioritize workflow and multi-task
  • Exceptional analytical and communication skills
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced trading environment
  • Comfortable working with large sets of data
  • Proactive in developing new ideas and ability to enhance current methods and tools.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of fixed income products, direct exposure to mortgages is preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced technical skills including MS Excel
  • Experience utilizing pricing models and third-party pricing applications (Bloomberg, Intex, YieldBook, etc.)
  • Strong preference for someone with prior experience on a trading desk or portfolio management team
  • Strong preference for someone with prior experience in Mortgage Servicing Rights (“MSRs”) and/or Early Buyouts (“EBOs”)
