As Senior Engineering Manager, you will oversee the development of new AI and ML features for our Delta knowledge management platform.  You will be responsible for cultivating accurate estimations of work, and motivating a group of talented software engineers across multiple disciplines (ML, BE, FE).   Additionally, you will take the lead on building new, or updating existing model-driven capabilities, working cross-functionally with teams in Product, Design, and Data Science to solve technical challenges using our natural language processing and machine learning technology.

Whether it’s helping create and contribute to a set of architectural principles, or proposing new processes or best practices, we need engineering managers that have remained hands-on and technical to help ensure things run smoothly, at a sustainable, but robust pace.  This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of AI and ML applications. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee a team of software engineers, aligned toward a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Facilitate discussions of scope and timing, accountable for timely execution at high quality.  You own arriving at an estimate, and will be held to the actual.
  • Work with machine learning engineers and data scientists to extend the platform’s capabilities to new models and algorithms while overseeing performance metrics.
  • Partner with Product Management to build functionality atop an extensible system design that you help develop, one that aids in predictability, delivery time and reliability.

Relevant Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience leading enterprise software technical projects end-to-end in an agile environment on any major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc)
  • Experience with ingesting massive datasets, and leveraging techniques for event and topic detection, relation extraction, summarization, entity recognition, document classification, multilingual NLP and knowledge base generation.
  • Experience with working with distributed systems, and deploying AI/ML models in production environments at scale.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, or Java.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and inspire a team.

Bonus Points

  • Experience in modern generative AI, including language models, transformer architectures, NLP models and prompting.
  • Mixed leadership experience in both early-stage startups and Big Tech.
  • Active US security clearance.

This role will consider applicants out of San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC

The annual cash compensation range for this position is US$186,000 to US$268,000.  Final compensation will be determined based on experience and skills and may vary from the range listed above.
