A Little About the Role
The Credit Underwriting Specialist is responsible for analyzing and evaluating customer applications to determine the level of risk involved. The specialist works to ensure that all software and payment processing decisions are compliant with company and payment processing industry standards. Our ideal candidate would have a Credit or Risk background and possesses effective communication skills and detail-oriented processes.
What you’ll do:
- Underwriting customer’s information, including credit check’s, IRS Tax ID verification, importing customer data, and triple check information in internal systems vs. paperwork received from customers
- Qualify account acceptability based on applicant credit quality and profile
- Render credit and risk decisions by disseminating publicly available data, industry reports, internal data reports, financial statements, and other credit qualifying criteria
- Conduct in-depth analysis of credit risk associated with new and existing customers, assessing their creditworthiness, financial stability, and exposure
- Conduct an assigned number of account reviews daily, weekly, and monthly meeting aggressive deadlines
- Processing bank and account changes
- Adding services to existing customer accounts such as the ability to process credit cards or change card types accepted
- Updating internal systems with all activity/correspondence
- When risk exceeds the Credit Review provide a write-up and recommendations to management
- Communicate decisions effectively in both verbal and written communication
- Assist in audits and periodic credit reviews for management
- Negotiate collateral or contract changes with merchants when it is determined that the original request cannot be accommodated
- Perform qualitative assessments to identify and mitigate credit and fraud risks
- Present and defend Credit and Risk decisions to higher credit authorities and management
- Report status activity on general credit reviews while providing recommendations for action
- Manage and monitor the credit portfolio, identifying trends, patterns, and potential areas of concern
- Interact with sales associates, new and existing centers, providing first in class service
- Prepare spreadsheets and detailed written reports to be presented to management
- Additional primary duties will be assigned as required
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Analytical skills - Able to identify, measure and report important metrics related to risk and underwriting
- Attention to detail - Appropriately checks all work for errors and does not let important details slip when it comes to risk investigation and its accuracy
- Creative problem solving - Able to use creativity and curiosity as tools to address any problem, producing a solution which is relevant and realistic
- Efficiency - Able to quickly iterate on data generation and refinement. Looks for ways to improve processes to maximize efficiency and remove redundancy
- Proactive - Take initiative to identify opportunities for process and team improvements
- 1-3 years’ experience in payments industry (Acquirer/ Processor/ISO/Payment Facilitator)
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, or Accounting is a plus
- Advanced knowledge in underwriting processes and policies
- Critical thinking and problem solving; challenge the status quo thinking to generate new ideas; takes an open-minded approach to situations
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple responsibilities effectively without compromising
- Excellent analytical skills with emphasis on investigation and research
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer/sales emphasis
- Strong organization and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to exercise sound decision judgement
- Experience in identifying fraudulent trends and mitigating credit and/or risk losses preferred
- Open to learn and adapt to ongoing changes and new processes

Salary
$28.50 to $33.50/hour DOE
Location
This position is based in our Denver, CO office. We are currently in a flexible hybrid in-office/remote working model based on business needs. Candidates must be willing and able to work from our Denver, CO office a few days a week.
