Position Summary:
The IT/OT Solution Architect will design and implement integrated architectures that bridge information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems within a manufacturing environment centered around Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
This role ensures seamless data flow between process automation, MES, and enterprise IT systems, supporting secure, compliant, and high-performing digital manufacturing operations. The architect will lead the design of scalable, future-ready solutions that enable smart manufacturing, data analytics, and lifecycle management of automation assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Design
- Develop end-to-end IT/OT solution architectures integrating Emerson DeltaV DCS, SCADA, MES, and enterprise IT systems (ERP, LIMS, CMMS).
- Define connectivity standards between DeltaV and higher-level systems using protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and MQTT.
- Design secure network topologies, including plant network segmentation, firewalls, and industrial DMZ configurations.
- Support the development of edge and cloud data architectures for real-time process monitoring, historian integration, and predictive analytics.
- Evaluate and recommend technology platforms to support digital transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Integration & Implementation
- Lead the integration of DeltaV systems with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and data historians (OSIsoft PI, Aveva, or Aspen InfoPlus.21).
- Collaborate with process automation and IT teams to establish standardized data models, interfaces, and asset hierarchies.
- Develop and maintain reference architectures for DeltaV integration across multiple plants.
- Provide guidance on DeltaV modernization, virtualization, and cybersecurity hardening strategies.
- Ensure architectures meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements (e.g., FDA 21 CFR Part 11 for regulated industries).
Governance & Standards
- Define and enforce IT/OT architectural governance, design patterns, and configuration management practices.
- Ensure adherence to ISA-95, ISA/IEC 62443, and NIST 800-82 standards for industrial cybersecurity and integration.
- Support the development of lifecycle management and migration plans for DeltaV systems.
- Participate in audits, risk assessments, and cybersecurity incident response planning.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with engineering, operations, and digital transformation teams to align architectures with business objectives.
- Lead workshops to define requirements, solution designs, and technology roadmaps for automation and digital initiatives.
- Mentor cross-functional teams on IT/OT convergence, automation data flow, and best practices for DCS-to-enterprise integration.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 8+ years of combined experience in industrial automation, IT infrastructure, or control systems architecture.
- Direct experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS configuration, system design, and lifecycle management.
- Strong knowledge of industrial networks, including VLANs, switches, firewalls, and remote access solutions.
- Experience integrating automation systems with MES, LIMS, ERP, and data historian environments.

- Proficiency in industrial communication protocols: OPC Classic/UA, Modbus TCP/IP, MQTT, Ethernet/IP.
- Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks for industrial control systems (ISA/IEC 62443).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, or life sciences manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with Emerson Syncade MES, OSIsoft PI, AspenTech, or Aveva solutions.
- Knowledge of cloud integration (Azure IoT, AWS IoT) and edge computing for manufacturing data.
- Certifications such as TOGAF, CISSP, ISA/IEC 62443, or Emerson DeltaV professional certifications.
- Understanding of GMP, GAMP 5, and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance principles.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
