About the Role
We're looking for a People Partner to join our Mumbai team and be a cornerstone of our People function. This is a mid-level role designed for someone who can hold both sides of the job at once — the operational rigour that keeps things running cleanly, and the human judgment that makes people feel genuinely cared for.
You'll own employee engagement end-to-end, keep our people operations tight, partner with managers on real people challenges, and support talent operations for the Mumbai office. You won't sit on the sidelines of the business — you'll be in the room, trusted and effective from day one.
What You'll Do
Employee Engagement & Culture
- Design and run engagement programs, pulse surveys, and team rituals that keep Prodigal's culture vibrant across the Mumbai office
- Own the onboarding experience end-to-end — every new hire should feel set up for success before they walk through the door
- Partner with managers to build strong team dynamics, identify early signals of disengagement, and intervene thoughtfully
- Own key lifecycle moments — anniversaries, milestones, team celebrations — with genuine intention, not checkbox energy
- Support internal communications that keep the team informed, aligned, and connected to what the company is building
People Operations
- Manage core people ops processes end to end: offer letters, documentation, background verification, probation reviews, and exits
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date employee records in the HRMS; own data hygiene and compliance across the employee lifecycle
- Coordinate payroll inputs and attendance tracking in close partnership with the finance team
- Ensure full adherence to labour laws and statutory requirements relevant to Maharashtra
- Run the people helpdesk for the Mumbai office — be the first point of contact for employee queries and resolve them with speed and empathy
People Partnering
- Act as a trusted partner to team leads and managers on performance, people challenges, and team effectiveness
- Facilitate performance review cycles — goal-setting, mid-year conversations, and year-end calibrations — with consistency and clarity
- Handle employee relations with maturity and confidentiality; manage escalations fairly and bring them to resolution
- Identify skill gaps and work with managers to define learning and development pathways for their teams
- Use people data — attrition trends, engagement scores, headcount — to surface insights and propose action, not just report numbers
Talent Operations
- Coordinate with the recruiting team on interview scheduling, offer management, and candidate experience for Mumbai-based roles
- Track open roles and pipeline health for the Mumbai office; flag blockers and keep hiring velocity visible
- Support employer branding initiatives that help attract quality talent to Prodigal's Mumbai team
What You Bring
- 3 – 6 years of experience in a people function with a clear blend of people operations, business partnering, and employee engagement
- Prior experience in a startup or high-growth tech or product company — you know what fast looks like and you can keep up
- Solid command of Maharashtra labour laws and statutory compliance; you don't need to look everything up
- Excellent communication skills — you write with clarity, speak with confidence, and listen well enough to hear what people aren't saying
- Organised and process-driven without being rigid — you know when to follow the playbook and when to use judgment
- High emotional intelligence; people bring you real problems because they trust you'll handle them with care
- Comfortable working independently and making calls without waiting for someone to hand you a to-do list
- Proficiency in HRMS tools such as Keka or Darwinbox, and fluency with Google Workspace
Even Better
- You've built an engagement program from scratch, not just inherited and maintained one
- Experience supporting or coordinating a recruiting function, even informally
- Familiarity with people analytics — you're comfortable building a simple dashboard or reading attrition data with nuance
- You've handled a difficult employee relations case and can talk about how you navigated it
- Background in fintech, lending, or any highly regulated industry
