Supply Chain Data Analyst
About project44
project44 is on a mission to make supply chains work. As the leading Decision Intelligence Platform for global supply chains, we connect, automate, and optimize key transportation processes to provide decision intelligence for the world’s leading brands.
The Opportunity
We're seeking for a Data Analyst who can transform our differentiated dataset into authoritative insights that shape industry narratives and drive media coverage.
What You'll Do
You'll analyze global freight patterns to identify emerging trends and disruptions—then translate those findings into reports and media responses that journalists, executives, and industry analysts rely on. Your work directly drives our media strategy: data-driven insights currently account for 40% of unearned media at project44 and are critical to maintaining our leadership position in share of voice against competitors.
Your work breaks into two categories:
- Real-time crisis reporting: Rapid analysis of breaking events like the Panama Canal drought, Baltimore bridge collapse, and Red Sea diversions—providing immediate context on supply chain impacts
- Predictable, repeatable reporting: Monthly tariff impact analyses and bi-annual deep dives on peak season last-mile dynamics and ocean transit conditions
Key Responsibilities
- Query and analyze datasets spanning ocean, air, parcel, and ground networks to identify meaningful patterns in transit times, capacity constraints, port operations, and freight flows
- Monitor geopolitical events, weather disruptions, labor actions, and policy changes to rapidly assess supply chain impacts—then explain the "why" behind the data to external audiences
- Write clear, data-driven reports that communicate complex findings to media, customers, and industry stakeholders
- Respond to journalist inquiries with quick-turnaround analysis and context, providing expert commentary backed by our proprietary data
- Conduct media interviews to provide deeper insight into trends and breaking supply chain events
- Collaborate with a network of friendly reporters who regularly leverage our insights for their coverage
- Validate data quality and methodology to ensure analytical integrity and credibility
- Create compelling visualizations that make insights immediately accessible
Required Skills
- Advanced SQL and data analysis capabilities—you can write complex queries, join disparate datasets, and identify patterns others miss
- Ability to quickly pivot from identifying statistical anomalies to explaining root causes and business implications
- Strong understanding of global supply chains: how ocean, air, and ground networks function, and how external events cascade through transportation systems
- Excellent writing skills for both formal reports and rapid media responses—your work needs to be authoritative, clear, and quotable
- Comfort with media interaction, including responding to reporter inquiries and participating in interviews
- Data visualization skills using tools like Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms
Preferred Experience
- Background in supply chain operations, freight forwarding, logistics, or transportation
- Experience working with media or developing thought leadership content
- Understanding of how geopolitical, economic, and environmental factors impact freight movement
- Familiarity with data validation methodologies and statistical analysis
In-office Commitment: This position requires a commitment to contribute to our collaborative culture by working in-office 5 days weekly.
Why This Role Matters
Your analysis drives how the industry understands supply chain dynamics. The insights you produce influence customer decisions, shape media narratives, and establish project44 as the definitive source for supply chain intelligence.
