Director of Distribution Center & Logistics

 

Job Summary: 
The Director of Distribution Center & Logistics is responsible for the day-to-day execution of distribution center operations, logistics, and transportation functions. This role ensures that warehouse operations run efficiently, shipments are executed on time, and transportation strategies support business needs. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in distribution center operations, logistics execution, and transportation management, with a strong ability to build and lead high-performing teams. 

This position is critical in supporting the company’s expansion, including opening new distribution centers and developing logistics strategies to optimize delivery efficiency. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

New Distribution Center Opening 

  • Play a key role in launching a new distribution center, including facility setup, hiring, and operational planning. 
  • Develop scalable distribution models to support future business growth.
  • Lead logistics planning and execution for new markets, ensuring seamless integration with existing operations. 

Distribution Center Operations 

  • Oversee all daily operations of the 250,000-square-foot distribution center, including receiving, inventory management, order fulfillment, packing, and shipping.
  • Develop and implement warehouse workflows, process improvements, and resource utilization strategies to increase efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, safety standards, and company policies to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Lead inventory control initiatives to minimize shrinkage and improve accuracy.
  • Evaluate and implement warehouse management systems (WMS) and automation solutions to optimize operations. 

Team Leadership & Development 

  • Recruit, train, and build a strong distribution center and logistics team capable of supporting company growth.
  • Provide hands-on coaching and leadership to warehouse and logistics personnel.
  • Foster a high-performance culture emphasizing accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence. 

Logistics & Transportation Management 

  • Oversee all transportation and logistics operations, including carrier management, freight optimization, and route planning.
  • Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs), carriers, and freight partners to ensure reliable service and cost-effective shipping.
  • Develop and implement best practices for fleet and freight management, including optimizing inbound and outbound logistics.
  • Monitor shipping performance and delivery timelines, resolving issues proactively to minimize delays.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities within transportation and distribution networks. 

Technology Process & Improvement 

  • Utilize data analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive efficiency in distribution and logistics operations.
  • Implement and oversee warehouse management (WMS), transportation management (TMS), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve distribution processes to enhance customer service and cost-effectiveness. 

Budget and Resource Management 

  • Prepare and manage budgets for logistics and distribution operations, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining high standards.
  • Manage all resource planning; including equipment, technology, and personnel, to support growth objectives. 

Qualifications: 

  • Education 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.  
  • Experience:  
    • 10+ years of progressive experience in logistics, supply chain, or distribution management, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
    • Proven experience opening and scaling new distribution facilities and leading teams through rapid expansion.
    • Experience managing third-party logistics (3PLs), freight carriers, and transportation networks. 
  • Skills & Competencies: 
    • Strong leadership and hands-on operational execution abilities.
    • Deep expertise in warehouse and logistics technology (WMS, TMS, ERP systems).
    • Proven ability to develop and implement operational best practices for distribution and logistics.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, execution-driven mindset.
    • Strong understanding of freight and transportation cost structures and optimization strategies.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
