Overview
PSI is seeking a Controller to lead our accounting operations, project-based financial controls, and government compliance functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, enforcing disciplined project accounting practices, and maintaining compliance with GAAP and government contracting requirements, including the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
The Controller will play a critical role in strengthening financial operations, supporting scalable growth, and ensuring compliance with indirect cost rate requirements and audit standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all general ledger activities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
  • Oversee accounts payable and payroll functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Own and review payroll processing, including wages, benefits, tax filings, and multi-state compliance; ensure proper integration with the general ledger and project costing.
  • Ensure payroll is accurately reflected in project cost tracking and labor allocations, supporting project accounting integrity.
  • Own project accounting and financial controls, including WIP, revenue recognition, cost tracking, and margin integrity.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations; ensure discrepancies are resolved promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and FAR/DCAA requirements across all financial activities.
  • Lead the development, preparation, and submission of indirect cost rate proposals in accordance with FAR and DCAA guidelines.
  • Maintain and document cost pools, allocation methodologies, and supporting schedules for audit readiness.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for DCAA audits, incurred cost submissions, and government financial reviews.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Partner with project managers and operations to enforce financial discipline and accountability.
  • Support cash flow management, A/R oversight, and financial accuracy across projects.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and lead audit readiness efforts.
  • Maintain alignment between accounting practices and financial systems (Deltek Ajera).


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller or senior accounting roles.
  • Strong expertise in project-based accounting (AEC or similar industry preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience with government contracting compliance, including FAR/DCAA.
  • Proven experience overseeing payroll operations and compliance, including multi-state environments.
  • Proven experience preparing and submitting indirect cost rate proposals / incurred cost submissions.
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP and internal control frameworks.
  • Experience working with Deltek systems (Ajera preferred).
  • Strong understanding of cost structures, rate development, and audit support.
  • Proven ability to build structure, enforce accountability, and operate in a growing organization.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
