The person we’re looking for:
PUBG Studios Madison is seeking a Senior Tools/DevOps Engineer to improve tool workflows on our current project.
As a Tools/Build Engineer you will contribute to the success of the PUBG team by improving and building upon a pipeline that allows for rapid and stable development iteration. You will collaborate with Engineering, Art, Design and IT to develop, maintain, and improve the pipeline and core tools relied upon by the development team. Our team has a large amount of autonomy and responsibility, so you will have the opportunity to work on areas such as build systems, the CI/CD pipeline, the integration of engine updates and plug-ins, and custom tools both within and external to the Unreal Editor. This position reports to the Shared Engineering Lead.
This is a one-year fixed term position with full benefits located onsite at our studio in Madison, WI.
Responsibilities:
- Play a critical role in managing the development and build pipeline used by the studio.
- Create tools to improve iteration times for common development tasks such as setting up development environments, creating and running local builds, and running validation tests.
- Collaborate with developers to identify tool or pipeline improvements and convert them into clear, estimated tasks.
- Develop custom validation processes and integrate them into the build pipeline.
- Set up, maintain, monitor, and support a build pipeline that is streamlined and user-friendly.
- Integrate custom and third-party tools and plug-ins into Unreal Engine.
- Openly communicate with management and production about the progress of tasks.
- Proactively support the success of other team members by providing technical guidance, participating in code reviews, and mentoring junior team members.
A Typical Day May Include:
- Attend a cross-discipline stand-up with other developers
- Estimate effort for change requests or bug fixes
- Code and test as part of development
- Participate in a studio-wide play test
- Review code changes from other engineers
- Discuss ideas, improvements, or issues with other engineers, designers, and artists
- Provide support to other engineers via paired programming
Required Qualifications:
- 5-8+ years engineering experience
- Strong background in CI/CD technologies and automation
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python, bash, or Powershell
- Experience deploying builds to retail platforms
- Experience implementing and improving editor tools
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests
- Strong communication skills that support effective cross-team collaboration
- A passion for games and gaming
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing and maintaining pipelines for consoles
- Experience with our core tech stack of Perforce, Git, Jenkins, and Windows
- Experience using Unreal Editor and UGS
- Experience using Horde
- Experience with Linux
