The person we’re looking for:

PUBG Studios Madison, WI office is seeking a skilled Core Tech Programmer to take on a high impact role on our Shared Engineering Team.

As a Senior Core Tech Engineer you will contribute to the success of the PUBG team by spearheading the implementation of best practices across our systems, with a strong emphasis on memory utilization and streaming to enhance efficiency. Additionally, your responsibilities will include developing custom tools tailored for Unreal and helping other developers to refine their content pipelines. This position is ideal for a programmer who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology to create immersive gaming experiences. Your expertise in Unreal Engine and systems optimization will be instrumental in shaping the technological backbone of our game development projects. This position reports to the Shared Engineering Lead.

This is a one-year fixed term position with full benefits located onsite at our studio in Madison, WI.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and maintain run-time information metrics focused on memory usage and budgets.
  • Support the game development teams with optimization by implementing solutions that lower memory usage and remove hitches.
  • Own the discovery, documentation, and sharing of best practices for Unreal Engine.
  • Support developer productivity by troubleshooting build errors and development environment issues.
  • Own development branch management for game projects and Unreal Engine.
  • Collaborate with other developers to identify tool or pipeline improvements and convert them into clear, estimated tasks.
  • Openly communicate with management and production about the scope and progress of tasks.
  • Proactively support the success of other team members by providing technical guidance and participating in code reviews.

A Typical Day May Include:

  • Attend a cross-discipline stand-up with other developers
  • Estimate effort for change requests or bug fixes
  • Code and test as part of development
  • Participate in a studio-wide play test
  • Review code changes from other engineers
  • Discuss ideas, improvements, or issues with other engineers, designers, and artists
  • Provide support to other engineers via paired programming

Required Qualifications:

  • 5-8+ years of experience in games engineering
  • A passion for optimization and solving complex problems
  • Ability to write extensible, easily maintainable systems in C++
  • Strong communication skills that support effective cross-team collaboration
  • Experience with the core tech stack of Unreal, Perforce, and Windows
  • Experience creating plugins and tools for developers in Unreal, other game engines, or DCC applications preferred
  • Ability to relocate/be onsite regularly at our studio in Madison, WI
