The person we’re looking for:

PUBG Studios Spain is looking for a Senior Technical Artist to work at our studio in Zaragoza, to work in a cooperative, cross-disciplinary environment to help the team implement a wide variety of features and systems.

As a key member you will contribute to the success of the team by driving the shader/material pipeline on our new IP by working closely with the rendering team. This role will implement performant shaders, assist material artists, and create shaders to support PBR and photogrammetry workflows. This position reports to the Gameplay & Visuals Technical Director in Spain.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Rendering Engineers and Material Artists to develop and maintain the material/shading pipeline.
  • Collaborate with artists and engineers to design and create new art workflows and tools.
  • Create simulation setups for assets such as hair and cloth for real-time in-engine or for animation within Maya.
  • Optimize materials/shaders and work with artists to troubleshoot performance issues in-game.
  • Write performant shaders that support PBR and Photogrammetry workflows.
  • Help artists to ensure that assets are authored correctly.
  • Be a technical resource through all phases of production and additional studio art needs.
  • Review the work of other tech artists and provide mentorship on your area of knowledge.
  • Create and maintain technical design documents.
  • Delve into scripts written by other technical artists and take ownership of existing systems as needed.
  • Keep current on technological developments and advancements.
  • Communicate accurate status updates to your team leads, producers, and QA regarding tasks/features you are responsible for.
  • Adhere to team coding standards and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of open, honest, and respectful communication across all disciplines.

A Typical Day May Include:

  • Implement tools for Material Artists
  • Investigate new visual improvements
  • Review work, provide feedback, and/or implement a new feature
  • Discuss ideas, improvements, or issues with other engineers, and artists
  • Provide support to other developers
  • Attend a cross-discipline stand-up with other developers
  • A studio-wide play test

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in gaming industry and 3+ years in a similar role.
  • Experience working on at least one AAA title creating tools and content workflows for artists.
  • Experience working on Unreal Engine.
  • Experience shipping games on current generation consoles (PS5 or XSX) and PC.
  • Advanced ability to be self-directed, focused and detail oriented.
  • Advanced knowledge of Maya.
  • Experience with tools such as Substance, Photoshop, or Houdini.
  • Advanced knowledge of Materials and Shaders.
  • Experience creating tools for artists.
  • Knowledge of Tool Scripting.
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude to take on new challenges.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrable love / passion for playing video games.
  • A highly collaborative disposition with excellent teamwork skills.
  • Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Python skills
  • Knowledge of Performance and Optimization
  • Knowledge of game performance profiling tools such as PIX, RenderDoc, Sony and Microsoft proprietary tools, etc.
