This is a six-month fixed term full-time position with benefits.

The person we’re looking for:  

PUBG Madison is seeking an experienced Senior Character Artist with strong technical expertise to help build high-quality, realistic characters for our games. This role focuses on heads, hair, player bodies, skins, and variants, with an emphasis on scalability and customization.

The ideal candidate blends artistic skill with technical problem-solving, ensuring assets are both visually compelling and optimized for performance. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to shape pipelines for character creation, skin systems, and variant workflows, pushing the quality bar for photorealistic player customization. This role reports to the Lead of Player Art.

Responsibilities: 

  • Create game-ready character assets, focusing on heads, hair, bodies, skins, and variants.
  • Build scalable workflows for producing multiple character and skin variations while maintaining consistency.
  • Ensure models are optimized for rigging, skinning, and animation within Unreal Engine.
  • Collaborate with design, tech art, and animation to expand customization and character pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, test assets in-engine, and refine pipelines for skin and variant creation.
  • Partner with producers and leads to plan, track, and deliver tasks efficiently, maintaining documentation of best practices.
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback across the art team, including to outsource vendors. 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in game development with at least 1 shipped title.
  • Portfolio showcasing realistic, high-quality characters, heads, and skins/variants presented in-engine.
  • Expert knowledge of Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance Suite, Marvelous Designer, or equivalent tools.
  • Skilled at producing clean, optimized models with proper UVs, PBR textures, and efficient topology.
  • Strong understanding of character design principles: silhouette, form, proportion, and material definition.
  • Hands on experience integrating and testing assets in Unreal Engine.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across disciplines.
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and deliver under deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with material creation and shader setup for realistic skin, hair, and clothing.
  • Familiarity with blueprint setup for character and skin/variant implementation.
  • Experience with scan data workflows for heads or body assets.
  • Knowledge of rigging, skin weighting, or technical art workflows.
  • Broader art skills such as concepting, procedural content creation, or scripting.
