THE OPPORTUNITY

Striking Distance Studios is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join our IT Operations team and support the infrastructure that powers our AAA game development studio. This role is responsible for maintaining the reliability, security, and performance of our hybrid IT environment, including on-premise infrastructure, cloud services, network systems, and studio production environments.

As a senior member of the IT team, you will work closely with developers, artists, and studio operations to ensure systems remain stable, secure, and optimized for game development workflows. This position requires a hands-on technical professional who is comfortable managing infrastructure while also assisting with escalated support requests across the studio.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Systems & Infrastructure Administration

  • Administer and maintain core IT infrastructure including Windows, macOS, and Linux systems
  • Manage on-premise servers, virtualization environments, storage systems, and SaaS platforms
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity to ensure reliable studio operations
  • Perform system updates, patching, and lifecycle maintenance across infrastructure systems
  • Maintain backup systems and support disaster recovery readiness

Network Infrastructure Support

  • Assist in managing and maintaining studio network infrastructure including switches, firewalls, and wireless networks
  • Support networking platforms such as Cisco Meraki and Palo Alto environments
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues impacting developer workstations, servers, and studio services
  • Monitor network performance and assist with improvements to reliability and capacity
  • Maintain core networking services including DNS, DHCP, and VLAN configuration

Build Infrastructure & Development Systems

  • Maintain and support studio build infrastructure and build servers used by development teams
  • Assist in managing build farm systems and ensuring build stability and availability
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues affecting build performance or development workflows
  • Support systems used by development teams including version control environments such as Perforce
  • Work with development teams to ensure studio infrastructure supports efficient game development pipelines

Identity & Access Management

  • Administer identity and access systems including Active Directory, Okta, and other authentication platforms
  • Manage user provisioning and access control across enterprise systems and SaaS applications
  • Support secure onboarding and offboarding processes for studio employees and contractors

Security & System Health

  • Assist in maintaining secure infrastructure through system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and patch management
  • Monitor security alerts and assist in incident response activities
  • Work with internal security teams to ensure systems follow studio security standards

Escalated IT Support

  • Serve as an escalation point for complex IT support issues across the studio
  • Assist with troubleshooting workstation, application, and infrastructure issues when required
  • Support endpoint management platforms such as Jamf, Intune, or similar tools
  • Work with the IT team to maintain a high level of service and responsiveness for studio staff

Documentation & Operational Processes

  • Maintain documentation for infrastructure systems, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides
  • Contribute to operational improvements and standardization across studio systems
  • Assist in managing infrastructure projects and technology rollouts

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 - 6 years of experience in systems administration, IT infrastructure, or IT operations
  • Strong experience administering Windows, macOS, and Linux systems
  • Experience managing Active Directory, Okta, or other identity management systems
  • Experience supporting virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, firewalls)
  • Experience supporting cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networking, and endpoint environments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced studio environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting game development studios or creative production environments
  • Experience with Perforce
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine development environments
  • Experience supporting build servers or build farm environments
  • Experience with endpoint management platforms (Jamf, Intune, SCCM)
  • Experience supporting Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco Meraki networking environments
  • Experience supporting hybrid on-premise and cloud infrastructure

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server or Azure Administrator
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or Solutions Architect
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+
  • Okta Certified Professional
