We're looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Lab Technician to support our R&D team in building, testing, and maintaining early-stage vaporizer prototypes. From soldering circuit boards and assembling precision parts to running durability tests and keeping lab equipment in top shape, you'll play a vital role in turning product ideas into real-world innovations. This role is essential to keeping our development process running smoothly and helping us deliver industry-leading cannabis technology.
Some things you will be responsible for:
- Assemble early-stage vaporizer prototypes using 3D printers, hand tools, soldering equipment, adhesives, and custom jigs
- Log detailed notes and photos during prototype builds and tests to aid reproducibility and troubleshooting
- Occasionally contribute feedback on ease of assembly, manufacturability, or ergonomics based on hands-on experience
- Fabricate and modify small components (e.g., using Dremel, drill press, or benchtop lathe)
- Wire, pot, and insulate heating circuits with attention to reliability and safety.
- Operate 3D printers to provide post-processed prints to team members (FormLabs, Bambu)
- Hand-populate bare board PCBs with small components
- Prepare and maintain lab test setups, including airflow rigs, electrical test stations, and aerosol capture systems
- Set up and run durability, thermal cycling, and leakage tests under engineer-defined protocols
- Collect and organize raw data (e.g., temperature curves, flow rates, resistance measurements) from lab instrumentation
- Flag abnormalities in test results or prototype behavior to engineers in a timely manner
- Learning, executing, and contributing to the standard operating procedure documentation for tasks and tests
- Maintain inventory of consumables (cleaning supplies, wires, connectors, adhesives, tubing, Dremel bits, etc.)
- Organize lab tools and parts using 5S or similar principles to ensure a clean and efficient workspace.
- Support maintenance and calibration of lab equipment and measurement tools (e.g., X-ray machine, laser cutter, airflow sensors, scales)
Some qualifications and skills we need you to have:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a Technician role
- Proven ability to assemble, rework, and troubleshoot small mechanical and electrical assemblies including the use of solder paste, reflow oven, and soldering irons
- Skilled in the use of common lab/shop tools (e.g., soldering iron, multimeter, tweezers, wire strippers, hand tools, adhesives, microscopes)
- Ability to operate lab equipment (e.g., temperature sensors, airflow meters, balances) and record test results accurately
- Familiarity with various 3D printing technologies and materials including SLA and FDM
- Careful and consistent work on sensitive assemblies (especially relevant for vapor path cleanliness and circuit integrity)
- Resourceful and able to debug issues in prototype builds or test setups independently before escalating
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, iterative R&D environment where requirements and priorities may shift rapidly.
Additional qualifications that will be nice if you have:
- Experience working with cannabis or cannabis-derived materials
- Familiarity with thermal systems, heaters, or vaporizer technology
- Experience using benchtop electronic testing equipment such as multimeters, power supplies, oscilloscopes
- Familiarity with basic electromechanical sensors
