Puffco is seeking a contract Merchandise Planner to support the planning and execution of our merchandise initiatives across wholesale/retail, DTC, and trade/events. This role will focus on driving merchandise programs from concept through production and launch, partnering closely with internal teams and external vendors to ensure deliverables align with brand standards, timelines, and channel needs. 

This is a highly collaborative, execution-focused role that operates at the intersection of brand, product, and operations. You’ll work alongside Marketing, Creative, Procurement, Sales, and Operations teams, as well as external designers and suppliers, to bring culturally relevant merchandise to market efficiently and effectively. 

Key Responsibilities 

Merchandise Planning & Lifecycle Execution 

  • Support the development and maintenance of the merchandise roadmap across channels, with a primary focus on wholesale/retail needs (swag, promotions, merchandising), and additional support for DTC and trade/events. 
  • Drive execution across merchandise categories including apparel, collectibles, swag, trade/event kits, collaborations/limited items, and retail merchandising assets (e.g., floor mats, shelf/display accents). 
  • Manage merchandise projects across the lifecycle (concept → development → launch → transition/end-of-life), including timelines, milestones, and stakeholder touchpoints. 
  • Contribute product ideas and merchandise concepts aligned with business objectives, preparing options and recommendations for review. 

Cross-Functional Project Coordination 

  • Partner with Procurement, Operations, Sales, Creative, and Marketing to execute merchandise initiatives from kickoff through launch. 
  • Establish clear project deliverables, timelines, and dependencies; track progress and flag risks or blockers as needed. 
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining clear communication around status, priorities, and next steps. 

Design Sourcing & Creative Collaboration 

  • Source and coordinate with external designers and creative partners to develop graphic-led merchandise concepts. 
  • Collaborate with internal Creative teams to ensure brand alignment, incorporate feedback, and prepare production-ready assets. 
  • Ensure designs align with Puffco’s visual identity, tone, and cultural relevance. 

Product Development, Vendor Coordination & Quality 

  • Partner with Procurement to support vendor sourcing, quoting, sampling, and production readiness. 
  • Manage sampling and quality review cycles to ensure merchandise meets expectations for materials, fit, print quality, and overall execution. 
  • Identify and communicate quality risks early, supporting resolution with vendors and internal partners. 

Channel Support & Launch Readiness 

  • Collaborate with channel stakeholders and Procurement on planning inputs, timing considerations, and forecasting assumptions. 
  • Support launch readiness by coordinating approvals, production timelines, and cross-functional handoffs. 

Requirements 

  • 3–5 years of experience in merchandise planning, product merchandising, apparel/soft goods development, or brand merchandise (consumer/lifestyle preferred). 
  • Experience supporting merchandise drops, seasonal assortments, or lifecycle management across multiple projects. 
  • Strong experience working with vendors through sampling and production timelines. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional projects and coordinate multiple stakeholders. 
  • Strong cultural awareness across fashion, design, streetwear, collectibles, and related cultural spaces. 
  • Experience collaborating with external designers and internal creative teams. 
  • Proficiency with tools such as Asana, Slack, Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and Microsoft Office; comfortable onboarding into new systems quickly. 

This hybrid role is based out of our Los Angeles HQ and requires in office work 2-3 days per week. 

The compensation range for this contractor role is $40.00 - $50.00 / hr for candidates based in Los Angeles, CA. Individual compensation is determined based on experience and skillset.
