Total Rewards Manager

United States

🚂 About Pulley

Pulley's mission is to make it easier for anyone to start a company. We believe that more startups should exist and that founder-led companies are more successful in the long term. With Pulley's cap table management tools, companies can better understand and optimize their equity for the long term. Starting a company is hard enough. Managing equity shouldn't be.

We're a high-performing team looking for passionate, execution-focused, self-starters to help us build the next generation of equity and business management tools for founders in an AI-native world. Pulley is growing quickly with over 4,000 customers including startups like Linear, Runway, Fathom, and Roam.

Our trajectory is fueled by top investors like Founders' Fund, Stripe, General Catalyst, Caffeinated Capital, 8vc, Elad Gil, among other great angels. We're growing the team to meet the demand.

🌟 About the role

We're looking for a Total Rewards Manager who will own the strategy, design, and administration of Pulley's compensation & benefits programs. As our first dedicated comp & benefits expert, you'll build scalable systems that attract top talent, reward performance, and support our team as we scale.

At Pulley, we've built a starting foundation with pay bands and compensation frameworks, but we need a subject matter expert to take us to the next level. You'll audit and refine our current programs, design new incentive structures (bonuses, equity refreshers), and lead our benefits strategy as we evolve beyond our PEO provider. This is a high-impact role where you'll partner directly with leadership to shape how we compensate and care for our team.

🛠 What you’ll do

  • Own Pulley's compensation philosophy and strategy—audit and refine pay bands, compa-ratios, and equity structures to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity
  • Lead annual compensation cycles including merit increases, promotions, and equity grants; partner with Finance on budget forecasting
  • Design and implement new compensation programs: bonus structures, equity refresh programs, profit sharing, and sales comp plans
  • Conduct market benchmarking and provide comp guidance for offers, promotions, and internal mobility
  • Own benefits strategy and lead the transition from PEO to direct benefits administration—evaluate vendors, design competitive packages, manage open enrollment
  • Build scalable processes, tools, and documentation; create dashboards to track compensation metrics and benefits utilization
  • Partner with People Ops and leadership to assist managers with compensation decisions and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Draft and own internal communications and policies for all compensation and benefits programs including policy documentation, employee guides, FAQ resources, and change management communications

🙌 What you bring:

Must-Haves

  • 5-7+ years of experience in compensation and benefits, ideally in high-growth tech startups or fast-paced environments
  • Deep expertise in compensation design including pay structures, equity programs, and incentive plans
  • Strong understanding of benefits administration, vendor management, and compliance
  • Experience conducting market analyses, benchmarking studies, and using compensation survey data
  • Proven track record of building compensation and benefits programs from the ground up or scaling them significantly
  • Excellent analytical skills with proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and compensation tools
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate data into strategic recommendations
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to explain complex comp topics simply
  • Experience partnering with Finance, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) or other relevant certifications
  • Experience transitioning from PEO to direct benefits administration
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems (Rippling, Deel, BambooHR, etc.)
  • Experience with remote/distributed workforce compensation strategies
  • Knowledge of international compensation and benefits practices, including managing or transitioning from an EOR
  • Background in equity compensation and cap table management
  • Experience at a high growth SaaS startup
