Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join an Outstanding Specialist College in Southwark, supporting young people and adults with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The college offers life-changing learning opportunities for students with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), communication and behavioural difficulties, and complex medical needs.
This role is ideal for a Band 6 or Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist with experience in specialist education or complex needs. You will work within a highly supportive, multi-disciplinary team, delivering person-centred, evidence-based speech and language therapy to empower learners to develop functional communication, independence, and skills for meaningful participation in their community.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:

Assess, diagnose, and manage speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs for young people and adults with complex SEND, including PMLD and behavioural needs.

Plan and deliver individualised and group therapy programmes aligned with learners’ functional goals and educational outcomes.

Provide specialist advice, modelling, and training to teaching staff, support workers, and families to embed communication strategies across the learning environment.

Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes, annual reviews, and multi-disciplinary team meetings.

Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional, organisational, and legal standards.

Support service development and best practice, with opportunities to mentor junior colleagues or students (Band 7 level).
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you should have:

A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

HCPC registration and membership (or eligibility) with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

Experience working with young people or adults with SEND, PMLD, complex communication needs, or behavioural challenges.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and organisational skills.

A reflective and proactive approach to continuing professional development.
