Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join an Outstanding Specialist College in Uxbridge, supporting young people and adults with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The college provides life-changing learning opportunities for students with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), communication and behavioural difficulties, and complex medical needs.
This role is suitable for a Band 6 or Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist with experience in specialist education or complex needs. You will work as part of a highly supportive multi-disciplinary team, delivering person-centred, evidence-based speech and language therapy to help learners develop functional communication, independence, and skills to achieve their personal aspirations and actively participate in their community.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:

Assess, diagnose, and manage speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs for young people and adults with complex SEND, including PMLD and behavioural challenges.

Design and deliver individualised and group therapy programmes tailored to learners’ functional goals and educational outcomes.

Provide specialist guidance, modelling, and training to teaching staff, support workers, and families to embed communication strategies across the learning environment.

Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes, annual reviews, and multi-disciplinary team meetings.

Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional, organisational, and legal standards.

Support service development and best practice, including mentoring junior colleagues or students (Band 7 level).
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you should have:

A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

HCPC registration and membership (or eligibility) with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

Experience working with young people or adults with SEND, PMLD, complex communication needs, or behavioural challenges.

Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and collaborative skills.

A reflective and proactive approach to continuing professional development.
