Substantive Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology - West Norfolk

Key Responsibilities
Obstetrics
• Provide consultant-led care across the full range of obstetric conditions, including antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal services.
• Lead and participate in high-risk obstetric clinics, including maternal medicine and fetal medicine, in line with departmental responsibilities.
• Take a proactive role in the delivery suite as part of the on-call and resident obstetric rota.
• Provide clinical leadership for the multidisciplinary obstetric team, including midwives, anaesthetists and neonatal colleagues.
• Contribute to the management of obstetric emergencies, with a commitment to simulation training and skills-and-drills programmes.
Gynaecology
• Provide a comprehensive outpatient gynaecology service, including general gynaecology, early pregnancy, and any agreed subspecialty clinics.
• Undertake elective and emergency gynaecological surgery, with competence across the core procedural repertoire expected of an NHS O&G consultant.
• Participate in the gynaecology on-call rota, covering acute gynaecological emergencies and supporting junior colleagues.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of benign gynaecology, including minimally invasive approaches where appropriate.
• Engage with the gynaecological oncology pathway, working closely with regional cancer networks and MDT processes.
Essential Criteria to Apply
• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, or within six months of eligibility at the time of interview.
• MRCOG or equivalent specialist qualification in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
• Completion of a recognised O&G training programme or equivalent.
• Demonstrable experience across the breadth of obstetrics and gynaecology at consultant or senior registrar level.
• Competence in the operative and procedural skills expected of an NHS O&G consultant, including obstetric emergencies and gynaecological surgery.
• Experience in managing high-risk pregnancy and complex gynaecological conditions.
• Ability to work independently as a consultant and contribute effectively to the on-call rota.
• Evidence of engagement with clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement.

• Permanent or fixed-term salaried NHS Consultant contract: £113,565 - £150,569 (Depending on Experience).
