Job Overview

Pulse is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Band 6/7 Speech and Language Therapist to join a dedicated Head and Neck Cancer team in Plymouth on a locum basis. This exciting opportunity is available for an immediate start and offers flexible full-time or part-time hours over a 6-month contract.

You will play a key role in providing specialist assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation for patients with communication and swallowing difficulties associated with head and neck cancer. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across the cancer pathway, supporting patients to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage adults with communication and swallowing disorders related to head and neck cancer.
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions for patients undergoing surgical, medical, and radiotherapy treatments.
  • Provide pre-operative counselling and post-operative rehabilitation, including voice restoration where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with ENT consultants, oncologists, dietitians, specialist nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with HCPC and local service standards.
  • Contribute to service development and support the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
  • HCPC registration.
  • Previous experience working as a Band 6 or Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Experience managing adults with head and neck cancer and dysphagia.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and multidisciplinary working skills.
  • The ability to work independently while managing a varied caseload.
