An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist to join a well-established NHS laboratory in West Yorkshire. This locum role is ideal for an experienced Blood Transfusion professional who can support a busy transfusion service, deliver accurate results, and contribute to safe, effective patient care.
What will your responsibilities be:
- Perform routine and specialist Blood Transfusion testing in line with departmental SOPs.
- Support safe transfusion practice, including group and screen testing, antibody investigations, compatibility testing, and crossmatching.
- Carry out analyser maintenance, quality control, result validation, and troubleshooting activities.
- Maintain compliance with UKAS accreditation, ISO 15189 standards, and local laboratory policies.
- Work collaboratively with biomedical, clinical, and support staff to ensure the delivery of a high-quality transfusion service.
- Participate in the department's rotational shift pattern, covering both long day and night shifts.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- BSc Biomedical Science or equivalent recognised qualification.
- Post-registration experience working within a UK Blood Transfusion laboratory.
- Experience performing group and screen, crossmatching, and antibody investigations.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and transfusion quality requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider laboratory team.
Desirable
- Previous NHS Blood Transfusion experience at Band 6 level.
- Knowledge of UKAS accreditation and ISO 15189 standards.
- Experience working a 24/7 transfusion rota.
