Member of Technical staff
We’re in an unbelievably exciting area of tech and are fundamentally reshaping the data storage industry. Here, you lead with innovative thinking, grow along with us, and join the smartest team in the industry.
This type of work—work that changes the world—is what the tech industry was founded on. So, if you're ready to seize the endless opportunities and leave your mark, come join us.
The Fleet Insights team operates at the intersection of software engineering, data engineering, and cloud-scale observability. We build the backend intelligence that helps Pure Storage operate one of the most advanced storage fleets in the world. Our systems continuously ingest and analyze massive volumes of telemetry and log data to deliver actionable insights, drive root-cause automation, and transform how we support customers globally.
As a Senior Staff Engineer (MTS-5), you will lead technical strategy and architectural evolution for highly reliable, high-throughput services that power Pure’s fleet observability. You will partner with engineers across the company to identify systemic issues, design scalable platform solutions, and ship innovative, customer-impacting capabilities. You will be both a deep systems builder and a mentor—amplifying team impact through design leadership, technical influence, and hands-on contributions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Architect and implement large-scale, distributed systems for telemetry ingestion, analysis, and classification—designed for six 9’s availability.
- Design creative, scalable algorithms for log correlation, real-time event detection, and fault prediction.
- Drive high-impact technical initiatives across multiple teams, aligning long-term architecture with product and platform goals.
- Own the full lifecycle of innovation—from ideation and prototyping to shipped services in production.
- Collaborate with peers across engineering, support, and product to define service responsibilities, APIs, and operational models.
- Improve developer productivity and operational excellence through design iteration, tooling, and automation.
- Partner with Data Engineering and Analytics teams to ensure strong data modeling, observability, and storage strategies.
- Mentor MTS2–MTS4 engineers, model technical excellence, and lead technical design reviews and architecture forums.
- Contribute to team culture through collaboration, initiative, and continuous learning.
- Be based in Bengaluru, India. As this is an office-centric role, you are expected to be present in office regularly to engage with the team.
What You’ll Bring to This Role
Technical Expertise
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on scalable backend systems, distributed computing, or large-scale data platforms.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java with clean design and a deep understanding of concurrency, resiliency, and performance tuning.
- Track record of designing fault-tolerant systems and implementing high-throughput, low-latency services in production.
- Experience with message queues, stream processing frameworks (Kafka, Spark), cloud-native architectures (e.g., AWS, GCP), and CI/CD.
- Knowledge of telemetry/log analytics, observability pipelines, or real-time data systems is a strong plus.
Engineering Leadership
- Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale initiatives across teams, with clear architecture vision and strong execution.
- Proven ability to influence platform direction and deliver solutions with long-term impact.
- Thoughtful about trade-offs, system evolution, and maintainability across codebases and organizational boundaries.
- Comfortable mentoring engineers and fostering a strong engineering culture of collaboration and innovation.
Product Impact & Communication
- Experience collaborating with PMs and cross-functional leaders to align engineering direction with business strategy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills—able to clearly articulate trade-offs, present technical vision, and drive alignment.
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
