Director Of Engineering

Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland | Hybrid

  • Lead multiple engineering teams through a major platform evolution

  • Shape the future of payments, data, and AI-enabled product capability

  • Influence technical direction at scale

Lead a high-scale product platform at the intersection of payments, data, and AI-enabled product evolution.

This is a role for an engineering leader who wants real influence — over platform direction, technical decision-making, and how an already strong engineering organisation evolves into its next phase. You’ll lead experienced engineering leaders across a platform environment where reliability, transaction integrity, product quality, and pace all matter. You’ll help shape technical direction, improve decision-making, and strengthen how Engineering and Product work together.

There is meaningful work ahead:

  • evolving payments capability

  • improving reporting and reconciliation experiences

  • strengthening platform and data foundations for smarter product capability

  • helping teams make better architectural and sequencing decisions

  • supporting AI-powered customer insight and natural-language experiences

  • helping engineering teams adopt modern, AI-assisted ways of working responsibly and effectively

This is an opportunity to help an already capable engineering organisation investing in what AI makes possible — in the product, in the data layer, and in how engineering works

Why this role will appeal:

You’ll have the space to:

  • lead through strong managers and senior engineers

  • influence architecture, sequencing, and platform evolution

  • partner deeply with Product on roadmap realism and trade-offs

  • support the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices without losing quality, judgement, or trust

  • reduce friction, lift clarity, and improve delivery confidence

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • leadership of multiple engineering teams through other leaders

  • experience in payments, billing, fintech, or other transaction-heavy platforms

  • strong technical judgement across platform evolution, architecture, reliability, and scale

  • real Product partnership, not stakeholder management from the sidelines

  • curiosity about where software engineering is going, including AI-enabled product and engineering capability

  • a calm, credible style that builds trust and alignment quickly

The kind of leader who will do well here:

You’re thoughtful, clear, and commercially aware.
You know how to guide without over-controlling.
You can challenge ideas without creating noise.
You bring enough technical depth to be respected, and enough leadership maturity to help others do their best work.

Why it’s worth a conversation:

This is a genuine chance to shape platform direction, coach excellent people, and help lead the next phase of growth in a business where engineering quality really matters.

If you’re looking for a role with real influence, strong peers, meaningful scale, and hard problems worth solving, let’s talk.
