Technical Lead

Auckland, New Zealand
  • Engineering leadership where work actually ships
  • Strong teams. Strong craft. Real customer impact
  • Lead the work. Bring others with you

The What

You’re not looking for a role where leadership pulls you away from engineering. You want to stay close to the work — designing features, guiding technical decisions, and helping a team consistently deliver software they’re proud of.

We’re looking for a Technical Lead who combines strong engineering craft with the ability to bring people along with them. This is a technical leadership role where you’ll guide engineering direction, support delivery, and help engineers grow, while partnering closely with an Engineering Manager who looks after formal people leadership.

You’ll lead a team of 5 - 8 engineers responsible for building and delivering meaningful features. Your role is to create clarity, maintain engineering quality, and ensure the team has the technical direction it needs to move with confidence. The problems here sit where customer needs meet engineering execution — turning ideas into reliable, well-designed software that improves real user experiences.

What This Role Really Is

You’re the engineer who helps the team do their best work.

  • Guide engineers through complex feature development
  • Create clarity around technical approaches and trade-offs
  • Balance delivery momentum with long-term maintainability
  • Mentor engineers and grow technical confidence within the team
  • Connect engineering work to the outcomes it creates for customers
  • You help the team move forward when things feel uncertain, and raise the standard of engineering through example.

This role is about technical leadership through craft, trust, and collaboration.

The Work

This isn’t ticket management. It’s technical ownership of team delivery.

  • Design and deliver robust features in C# / .NET
  • Guide technical decisions and architecture within your team
  • Partner closely with Product Managers and Engineering Managers on delivery priorities
  • Review code and mentor engineers to strengthen engineering quality
  • Identify risks early and help the team navigate them
  • Encourage strong engineering practices across design, testing, and deployment

You’ll stay hands-on when it matters, while helping the team build momentum and confidence in the work they deliver.

The Stack

Our ecosystem includes:

  • C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core
  • NodeJS services, React Frontends
  • Entity Framework and other ORMs
  • MS SQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB
  • REST APIs and GraphQL
  • Messaging/Eventing (RabbitMQ, SQS, Kinesis)
  • Microservices and distributed systems, instrumented with OTel
  • AWS infrastructure
  • AI services underpinned by Claude, Bedrock, and Langfuse

You don’t need to know every tool on day one. Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to reason about systems matter far more than specific technologies.

Why You Should Care

You’ll have real scope to:

  • Lead a capable engineering team delivering meaningful features
  • Influence how software is designed, built, and shipped
  • Mentor engineers and grow the technical strength of the team
  • Stay hands-on with modern engineering practices
  • Ship software that genuinely improves the experience for customers

If you’re the kind of engineer who:

  • Enjoys helping others become stronger engineers
  • Cares about building high-quality software that ships
  • Balances delivery pace with technical quality
  • Leads through curiosity, collaboration, and example

This will resonate.
