Product Definition Engineer Co-op

Quest Defense Systems & Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Co-op to support the design and analysis of aero-engine structures and rotating components, including frames, shafts, disks, blisks, and seals. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers to develop and review 3D models and 2D drawings, apply GD&T principles, and use tools such as NX to evaluate component designs.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with engineering teams to assess design concepts, manufacturing considerations, and component quality. You’ll also contribute to technical documentation and reviews while learning how performance, service life, cost, and system requirements shape gas turbine design.

The duration of this co-op will be 1/11-4/28.

Location: Onsite in Blue Ash, OH for the Winter semester (January 11, 2027 through April 28, 2027)
Clearance: All applicants must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and/or modification of designs related to aero-engine components by analyzing product specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capabilities
  • Utilize GD&T principles to support the team in accurately defining 2D drafting of aero-engine components
  • Work with peers to interrogate the quality of 3D models and 2D drafts of aero-engine components
  • Contribute to mechanical design projects of gas turbine components on Structures/Rotating parts (Frames, Shaft, Disk, Blisk, seals etc.)
  • Evaluate concepts of new designs/improvements, manufacturing methods, materials or processes and complete required documentation by applying engineering principles and Industry standards, and generating reports, procedures or change proposals
  • Support technical substantiation, contribute & observe technical and program reviews
  • Support the team in developing components and modules, keeping cost, performance, life, and system requirements in mind
  • Design and Analysis of the component using CAE tools (NX)
  • Direct interface with other internal engineering functions
  • Apply technical principles, theories, and concepts to solve a wide range of challenging engineering problems
  • Evaluate form, fit, function and life of the components relative to the certified configuration
  • Evaluate non-conformances by reviewing and analyzing design criteria and acceptability limits, recommend disposition procedures, and maximize producibility

We’re excited to talk to you if your qualifications meet the following criteria:

  • Familiar with mechanical design of Gas-turbine or turbomachinery components
  • Working towards a BS/B.Tech in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited university
  • Experience with NX and ANSYS (Classic or Workbench) or other similar tools
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings with some knowledge of GD&T
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work under time constraints and multitask
  • Ability to interact with employees/managers with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Project Management experience is desired, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Like to work in a fast-paced, creative environment

Full compensation package is based on candidate experience and certifications
