About Your Role
As a Database Administrator you will work closely with our Development and Site Reliability Teams to build new features, monitor and ensure performance, advise on schema refactoring efforts, provide developers with support, and assist in best practices for database design.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Ensure Database Health, Uptime, and Performance
- Utilize consistent and robust monitoring tools to ensure high availability
- Conduct performance baselines and continually audit for schema improvements
- Troubleshoot any performance anomalies and respond to high priority issues
- Assist in Development Operations
- Participate in code reviews to ensure new features utilize a robust and scalable schema
- Train and advise the development team on best practices, indexes, query plans, etc.
- Take an active role in continuous performance tuning initiatives (queries, indexes, and configuration parameters)
- Perform Tasks and Own Assigned Database Projects
- Complete daily work such as query optimization, schema change reviews, and writing scripts
- Ensure daily jobs run on multiple servers across multiple environments
- Develop and maintain documentation related to database systems and procedures.
- Assure High Security
- Establish best practices for database auditing
- Ensure sensitive information is properly categorized, stored, and transferred
- Review and install the latest security patches
Who You Are
- Experience with database High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR), backup strategies, and disaster recovery approaches
- Knowledge of best practices in database design and performance optimization query plans, T-SQL, and monitoring tools
- Experience with cloud-based SaaS solutions, specifically utilizing AWS technologies
- Understanding of ORM concepts and applying database object changes through code migrations
- Understanding of Agile development processes
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Experience communicating cross functionally with software development teams
Experience You Bring
- 3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL; including performance tuning, query and index optimization, and administration
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, configuration, and monitoring tools
- 3+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server, with a combination of administration and development
- Bachelor’s degree specializing in computing, engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
