Quansight has its roots in the Python data science community. Our founders have had significant involvement in creating and maintaining NumPy, SciPy, Jupyter, Spyder, Dask, Conda, Numba, and other projects, as well as PyData NumFOCUS, and Anaconda. Our mission is to connect companies to open-source communities to create sustainable solutions that benefit the whole ecosystem.

Quansight is looking to find a full-time remote Senior Engineer Python/C/C++ Packaging to join our team of industry-leading data science and engineering professionals. A core part of this position will involve becoming a conda and conda-forge community member and helping improve and maintain these open source ecosystems.
In this position, you'll get to
As a Senior Engineer Python/C/C++ Packaging, you will work on various open source and consulting projects, focusing on building & packaging complex projects with Python, C, C++ and possibly CUDA and Rust code for the PyPI and Conda ecosystems, and on Python packaging standards and tooling.
In this position, you’ll get to:
- Work with modern build, packaging, CI, and DevOps technologies
- Actively contribute to open-source projects throughout the Python ecosystem
- Develop new features, performance enhancements, and help maintain projects with millions of users
- Maintain and extend the existing documentation for the open source projects you’ll contribute to
- Interact with clients from both industry and academia
- Collaborate with, learn from, and mentor team members and community contributors
- Be a part of the Python, PyData, and packaging communities
- Drive fruitful conversations around technical issues, engineering practices, and community processes, and suggest improvements and ideas as you encounter them
- Review code and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback during code reviews
Position Requirements
Required:
- Familiarity with compilers like MSVC, GCC, Clang, and build tools like Make, CMake, Meson, distutils/setuptools and linkers
- Fluency in using Git and GitHub, and experience in contributing to open source projects
- Previous experience with open source development practices such as creating and reviewing Pull Requests and issue triaging
- Experience working asynchronously on a remote, distributed team (does not have to be professional experience)
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Deployment tools (GitHub actions, Azure DevOps)
Bonus points (not required, but these would be a great advantage)
- Prior experience with packaging for PyPI, Conda or another ecosystem is beneficial but not required.
- If you have expertise in languages like C, C++, and Python and can navigate large code bases, we expect you can learn about any new tool or project quickly.
- We also highly value good communication skills. We aim to help you grow within Quansight and the Python open source community.
- Experience with shell scripting and/or containerization (Docker, Ansible)

- HR interview: This is an opportunity to get to know each other. - Interview loop: If you and your recruiter still feel you could be well-suited for this position following your call, we will arrange our interview loop with some team members. This will allow you to learn more about the team and the organization and help us better understand your skills and experience. For this particular role, the interview loop is as follows:
- 1:1 interviews: we will schedule three separate interviews. One with the hiring manager and two with Quansight Labs team members (these can be potential teammates or cross-functional team members, i.e. designers and engineers.)
- Following the completion of all interviews, our hiring team will make a final decision, and the recruiter will contact you to share the outcome of your interviews. If the team wants to move forward, the recruiter will discuss this and the details of our proposed offer with you.

Where can we hire?
Our engineering team is entirely remote. Our headquarters are in Austin, Texas, and a good portion of our team is U.S. based. We also have a significant presence in Europe, South America, and Asia. We will consider applicants anywhere (overlap with U.S. and Europe time zones is preferred).
