Japan Finance Manager
Job Purpose & Objectives
As the Japan Finance Manager for Quera Computing Japan Incorporated’s Japan operations, you will be responsible for the full spectrum of accounting, finance, tax, regulatory reporting, and HR functions in Japan. This is a critical control role requiring strong attention to detail, discipline in execution, and sound judgment. You will work closely with local team members in Japan and global functions in Boston, MA, USA to ensure full compliance with Quera’s internal standards and Japan’s regulatory requirements.
This is a hands-on position suited for a reliable and experienced professional who can manage both day-to-day operations and periodic reporting cycles while serving as the go-to person for staff HR queries and compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Finance
- Maintain accurate books and records in compliance with Japanese GAAP and Quera’s internal accounting policies
- Oversee local month-end and year-end closings, ensuring deadlines are met with zero tolerance for error
- Manage and reconcile accounts payable and receivable, employee expenses, and bank transactions
- Coordinate with external tax accountants and statutory auditors for local filings and audit processes
- Prepare and submit regulatory returns to Japanese authorities
- Support budget planning, cost tracking, and internal financial reporting for Quera Japan management
- Act as liaison with global and regional Finance functions for reporting, controls, and audits
Human Resources
- Manage payroll and benefits administration
- Maintain employee records in line with local labor law and Quera’s internal policies
- Support recruitment logistics, onboarding, and off-boarding procedures
- Ensure HR compliance with Japanese labor law, including social insurance, leave entitlements, and documentation
- Handle employee relations queries with confidentiality and professionalism
- Coordinate implementation of global HR policies locally in a culturally appropriate and legally compliant manner
Qualification & Experience
- University degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related discipline preferred but not required
- 8–10 years of relevant experience in accounting and/or HR, ideally within a foreign financial institution in Japan
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA Japan or international equivalent) is a plus
- Strong familiarity with Japanese tax, accounting, labor laws, and regulatory frameworks
- Experience working with external payroll and accounting vendors
- Native-level Japanese is required, and business-level English is a plus
