Quantum Solutions Scientist

Boston, MA USA

Summary

Real fault tolerant quantum computers are coming. It’s time to put them to work.

QuEra is seeking a talented quantum solutions scientist to explore algorithms and applications that fit within the qubit count and megaquop capabilities of near-term fault-tolerant neutral atom quantum computers. In collaboration with external customers and internal teams, you will work on hands-on co-design projects in resource estimation, application finding, QEC gadget design, and subroutine optimization to demonstrate the utility of EFT neutral atoms.

QuEra Computing is the leader in neutral atom quantum computing and is a front runner in the race towards utility-scale quantum computing. In this role, you will be at the cutting edge of quantum computing development. Your contributions will help steer QuEra and the entire field towards practical quantum utility.

Responsibilities

  • Execute technical delivery of customer co-design projects from initial scoping and algorithm prototyping to hardware execution and demonstrated results.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, QEC theory, compiler, and software teams to leverage the tools, context, and expertise needed to deliver customer projects.
  • Perform application-level resource estimation and use it to optimize quantum executions to fit optimally on EFT neutral atom hardware.
  • Develop fault-tolerant algorithmic subroutines and QEC gadgets optimized for high-rate codes.
  • Survey state-of-the-art classical and quantum methods across target verticals to identify high-value application opportunities and quantify quantum advantage crossover points.
  • Publish research and present findings at leading quantum computing conferences and venues

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in physics, math, computer science, quantum information science, or similar field.
  • Expertise in quantum information science and quantum computing fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of modern quantum error correction techniques
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with scientific coding using Python

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant Postdoc and/or quantum computing industry experience
  • Customer focused project development experience
  • Expertise in an industry vertical such as logistics, finance, operations research, chemistry, biotech, engineering, machine learning, or another related field.
  • Strong publication record in quantum information science, machine learning, chemistry, applied mathematics, or similar field.
  • Familiarity with gate based neutral atom quantum computing
  • Prior experience in a quantum computing company or commercial research environment

The approximate base salary range for this position is $130,400 - $211,900.

We consistently monitor external market data and update base salary ranges accordingly.  We determine base compensation decisions on several factors, including as geographic placement, role-specific knowledge, skills, and/or experience.  In addition to our base salary offerings, we also provide equity grants for all new hires.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.
