About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Lead DevOps Engineer to join our growing technology team at Quilt Software. In this pivotal role, you will split your time between hands-on technical work (approximately 80%) and strategic leadership (20%). You’ll oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of our multi-cloud infrastructure spanning AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, ensuring it meets the highest standards of security, scalability, and performance. Leading a group of DevOps engineers, and collaborating with a group of software developers, and product managers, you’ll drive operational excellence and contribute to shaping the company’s long-term DevOps strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for DevOps, aligning with overall business goals and objectives: Collaborate with senior leadership to define the vision and long-term strategy for DevOps initiatives, ensuring they support the company's growth, scalability, and innovation goals.
  • Design and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure: Architect robust systems across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, incorporating security best practices such as encryption, least-privilege access, and regular compliance checks to meet industry standards (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR).
  • Optimize system performance and security: Monitor system health with tools like Prometheus or Datadog, proactively resolving bottlenecks, ensuring 99.9% uptime, and implementing disaster recovery plans to maintain business continuity.
  • Implement and enforce cybersecurity best practices: Lead efforts to secure infrastructure through identity and access management (IAM), firewall configurations, and vulnerability assessments, while staying ahead of emerging threats with regular audits and updates.
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines: Build and enhance continuous integration and continuous deployment workflows using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI, embedding automated testing, security scanning, and cost-monitoring to streamline software delivery.
  • Lead and mentor the DevOps team: Guide a team of 3-5 engineers, providing technical direction, conducting code reviews, and fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and innovation to elevate team performance.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams: Partner with software engineers to improve application deployment processes and work with operations staff to ensure infrastructure aligns with business objectives, resolving blockers efficiently.
  • Monitor and manage cloud costs: Leverage tools like AWS Cost Explorer or Azure Cost Management to track spending, implement tagging strategies, and optimize resource allocation to reduce expenses without compromising performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of DevOps experience: Proven track record of managing production-grade cloud environments, with deep expertise in AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud services (e.g., EC2, S3, Azure VMs, GCP Compute Engine).
  • Expertise in DevOps tools: Hands-on proficiency with Jenkins, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and Ansible for automation, containerization, and infrastructure management.
  • Proficiency in scripting: Strong coding skills in Python and Bash for automating tasks, with experience writing reusable scripts to manage cloud resources and troubleshoot issues.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines: Demonstrated ability to design and maintain pipelines that integrate unit tests, security scans (e.g., SAST/DAST), and deployment stages for rapid, reliable releases.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security principles: Knowledge of IAM policies, network security (e.g., VPCs, subnets), encryption standards (e.g., TLS, AES-256), and compliance frameworks.
  • Cloud cost optimization expertise: Experience reducing cloud expenses through rightsizing instances, using reserved instances, and automating shutdowns of idle resources.
  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems: Expertise in system administration, shell scripting, and security hardening (e.g., configuring firewalls, managing user permissions, and applying patches).
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems: Knowledge of the Microsoft ecosystem, including Active Directory for user management, PowerShell for automation, and Windows Server management for hybrid cloud environments.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills: Ability to mentor junior engineers, explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities: Capacity to debug intricate system issues, such as network latency or application failures, using log analysis and monitoring tools.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Advanced certifications: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer, or cybersecurity credentials like CISSP or CCSP.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC): Advanced proficiency with Terraform or CloudFormation for provisioning and managing cloud resources with version control (e.g., Git).
  • Monitoring and logging expertise: Familiarity with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) to monitor system performance and security in real time.
  • Agile and project management knowledge: Experience working in agile environments (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and using tools like Jira or Trello to manage workflows and track progress.
  • Domain-specific experience: Background in industries such as finance, healthcare, or e-commerce, with an understanding of their unique compliance and operational needs.

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
