Merchant Risk Analyst

About the Role:

As a Merchant Risk Analyst, you will play a critical role in identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with our merchant portfolio and card holder transactions. You will be responsible for analyzing merchant underwriting data, monitoring transaction patterns, conducting risk assessments, proposing risk mitigation strategies, and executing daily actions against those strategies. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, an inquisitive mind for identifying fraud patterns, and a passion for maintaining the integrity of our payment ecosystem.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform comprehensive risk assessments on new and existing merchant accounts to evaluate potential risks and ensure compliance with internal underwriting policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze merchant transaction data, trends, and patterns to identify potential fraud, money laundering, or other suspicious activities by the merchant or card holder, before they occur.
  • Help in developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies, including monitoring systems, policies, and procedures, to minimize merchant fraud and financial losses.
  • Take ownership of our risk management toolsets, configure, enhance, and improve, investigate and resolve merchant and transaction risk alerts, flags, disputes, chargebacks, and other risk-related issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including sales, operations, and customer support, to provide training and guidance on risk-related matters and ensure adherence to risk management protocols.
  • Work with merchants in escalating and mitigating potential card holder fraud
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, industry best practices, and regulatory changes related to merchant and card holder risk and fraud..
  • Prepare reports and presentations on risk-related metrics, trends, and recommendations for senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of risk assessment tools, models, and systems.

Preferred Experience and Background:

  • Proven experience as a Merchant Risk Analyst, credit card payment fraud, or in a similar role within the payment processing or financial services industry.
  • Solid understanding of merchant risk management principles, including fraud prevention, chargeback management, and transaction monitoring.
  • Familiarity with payment industry regulations and compliance requirements (e.g. AML regulations).
  • Proficiency in utilizing risk management tools, software, and reporting systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and identify patterns or anomalies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a geographically dispersed team.
  • Ability to develop and run simple queries against the database is preferred

Salary: $85,000 + bonus opportunity
Location: Remote-based within the USA.
