Engineering Lead

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Leader to lead one or more product engineering teams building mission-critical POS and Related Services SaaS platforms. This role balances people leadership, technical execution, and cross-functional collaboration in a highly regulated, high-availability environment.

You will be responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and reliable payment solutions while developing engineers and fostering a strong engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities

People & Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers (backend, frontend, mobile, and platform).
  • Set coding standards and enforce architecture best practices.
  • Conduct design/code reviews and collaborate with SRE/DevOps processes (CI/CD, reliability).
  • Produce technical documentation and architectural designs.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Communicate ideas, technical plan and foster collaboration effectively in group settings with clear plan that is executable and measurable towards the common goal.
  • Translate product and business goals into clear technical execution plans.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs to engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work closely with customer support and operations on merchant-impacting issues

Technical & Delivery Leadership

  • Partner with Product, Design, Compliance, SRE and Operations to deliver POS, payment, loyalty, gift cards and other features end-to-end.
  • Own team execution: sprint planning, delivery predictability, incident follow-ups, and technical debt management.
  • Guide architectural decisions for high-throughput, low-latency systems.
  • Ensure best practices in code quality, testing, observability, and CI/CD.

Cloud based Point of Sales & Platform Features Engineering and Reliability

  • Inventory Management and PO sync: Items matrices, Vendor Catalog, Purchase Order Management, Multi store inventory
  • CRM: Capture customer details, track purchase history, create targeted marketing campaigns, gift card management, and loyalty rewards.
  • Sales & Promotions:Custom discounts, bulk pricing, time-sensitive promotions, and bundled offers are all supported and easy to apply in-store or online.
  • Reporting & Analytics:Detailed dashboards and exportable reports give visibility into best-sellers, profit margins, and more.
  • Employee Management:Create user roles, track time, set permissions, and monitor metrics across locations.
  • Payment: Integration to Quilt Payment or external payment
  • eCommerce Sync:Integration to Quilt internal eCommerce module or integrate with Shopify, DoorDash, etc.
  • Ensure platform reliability, uptime, and data integrity for merchants and partners.
  • Participate in incident response and post-mortems, driving long-term fixes.
  • Collaborate on PCI DSS, SOC 2, and other compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years in an engineering management or tech lead role.
  • Hands on participation on Development work and coding
  • Experienced in full stack application development in React frontend and PHP / MySQL backend using Kubernetes on GCP or AWS
  • Experience building and operating SaaS platforms at scale with measurable KPI to guide success
  • Strong understanding of old PHP and modern backend systems (APIs, microservices, databases, cloud infrastructure).
  • Proven ability to lead teams delivering high-availability, customer-facing systems.
  • Experience working in regulated or compliance-heavy environments with strong technical documentation and measurable outcome KPI
  • Effective communicator and stakeholder alignment with savvy management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with POS systems, Payment or fintech (e.g., Toast POS or other relevant product, payment gateways, facilitators, processors).
  • Familiarity with PCI DSS, SOC 2, or financial compliance standards.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Background in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, or real-time transaction processing.
  • Experience managing hybrid teams (backend, frontend, mobile).
