At quip, design forward and innovative products that enable healthy oral care habits are in our core DNA. In  2015, we launched our industry disrupting quip Sonic Brush. We  have continued to grow our product portfolio,  with our newest launch, the quip 360, winning the WSJ Best Electric Brush in August 2024! 

We are looking for a Director of Industrial Design to lead design strategy and execution for our hardware and consumables product roadmaps. 

You’ll work with multiple disciplines and guide concepts, thinking, research, and high fidelity form development for our newest products. You’ll also collaborate deeply with marketing, creative, and digital product teams to inform design-focused solutions across the company. You will play a leading role facilitating  deep dives  into concept development, brainstorms, and workshops to define future innovations as well. 

You should not only be adept at communicating concepts through various mediums (sketches, renderings, 3d modeling) but be able to guide and support our Product team and external Partners to develop their own skillsets at the highest level.

Base Salary: 150-180k

This range represents anticipated base salary range for this position, in addition to competitive benefits and equity (as applicable). We carefully assess and consider several factors with each candidate, including location, role-related knowledge, experience and skills. Compensation may vary based on these considerations

In addition to core Industrial Design work, this role would have the additional responsibilities: 

  • Guide cross functional team  members and workflows to align Company strategic goals with our highly innovative and executable product roadmap
  • Inspire our team of designers, engineers, and researchers to deliver world class design work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Define quip’s design ethos and strategy across multiple mediums, paying attention to every detail of a product including packaging, digital, material, finish, weight, and user experience
  • Ability to think both strategically and practically about design in order to achieve schedule, margin, quality, and manufacturability 
  • Ability to translate inputs from a variety of sources including Customers, Consumer Research, and Industry Trends into defined product concepts and features 
  • Serve as an ambassador for product at quip, bringing your passion to both internal stakeholder reviews, as well external events such as brand and product launches, influencer events, and even media engagements! 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years of professional Industrial Design experience, preferred in consumer electronics or personal care products. 
  • Extensive experience with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, mold and fixture making, stamping, plating, painting, casting
  • Strong familiarity with manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering principles 
  • Strong concept development techniques utilizing 3D modeling, sketching, sculpting, or other rapid processes
  • Knowledge and ability to use tools such as SolidWorks, Rhino, Keyshot, and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as guide others in their right application.
  • Ability to design user experience sessions, design research sessions, and /or innovative ideation sessions
  • Familiarity with prototyping solutions with a mix of samples, handwork, FDM printing, and SLA 3D printing (Form 3)
  • Understanding of and familiarity working with product commercialization processes (milestone or phasegate based)
  • Experience partnering and working with global contract manufacturers to achieve design vision and product requirements 
  • You are naturally curious and take initiative to open up new ideas not just by suggestion, but through persuasive prototypes, and other media
