Head of Business Development
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt failsafe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to five years without the need to refuel. Portable nuclear power with rapid deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators, and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development utilizes modern software engineering to rapidly achieve safe, factory-built microreactors that leverage existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor next year at the Idaho National Laboratory, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
Head of Business Development
Radiant is hiring a Head of Business Development to be based out of El Segundo, California.
Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer, this is a key position as we enter the delivery and execution phase for our first product, the Kaleidos 1 MW microreactor.
We are looking for a hungry, commercially minded individual with experience sourcing customers and closing binding agreements. This person is primarily responsible for commercial customers (C&I, utilities, remote communities, etc.) and will also work within our defense verticals.
The ideal candidate is a do-er who can make a bottoms-up assessment of product market fit and independently network to decision makers within potential customer organizations. We need someone with great instincts who can be relied upon to deliver outcomes in a market that our product will be the first to create. This is fundamentally a sales role, but the right candidate will need to be able to very quickly learn and understand all of siting, licensing, permitting, and financing to ensure our customers can be successful.
The right fit for this role should have experience in hardware, but it does not have to be in the nuclear or energy industry.
Radiant is a place where people can do some of the best work of their lives, and we’re looking for the very best-of-the-best in this hire. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Independently source quality leads with potential customers where our product could be a fit. Emphasis on quality.
- Lead client presentations from discovery sessions to development proposals.
- Negotiate commercial documents from term sheet to binding definitive agreement stage. Close deals.
- Identify every detail required to ensure customer agreements become operating reactors, working tenaciously both independently and with support from the engineering and operations teams.
- Work through challenges that may initially feel ambiguous, difficult, or otherwise hard to solve. Own the details and feel empowered to get results, even when it’s something new that you haven’t taken on before.
- Develop tailored, detailed proposals, grant letters, and communications both internally and externally.
- Act as an ambassador of Radiant’s mission, values, and overall brand.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- 7+ years of meaningful experience in business development or sales with a proven track record.
- Ability to travel and attend in-person meetings.
- US Citizen or green card holder.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- MBA or equivalent experience in an adjacent field is welcome (finance, consulting, etc.).
- Experience in hardware is ideal, but we do not require experience in the nuclear or energy industry.
- This is an excellent opportunity for MBA graduates looking to move into hardware as operators.
- A relentless can-do attitude that is determined to break through roadblocks.
- An innate curiosity with healthy skepticism for the status quo.
- Experience in the end-to-end sales cycle of a complex hardware product or infrastructure project.
- Experience working with government entities.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, start initiatives from scratch, and own projects autonomously and proactively.
- Passion for our mission of making nuclear portable and the role of nuclear power in providing carbon-free and continuous energy.
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.
- Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.
