What this role is about:
Are you excited about designing technology that helps people in their most critical moments? At RapidSOS, we’re transforming public safety by connecting life-saving data to first responders when every second counts. As a Staff Product Designer, you will design thoughtful workflows and product experiences that transform complex, real-time data into trusted insights that help save lives. You will help build, scale, and evolve our life-saving technology across the entire RapidSOS platform and brand, shaping both our AI-powered platform experiences and the way design operates at scale across the company.

This strategy-level design role focuses on growing the foundations that enable RapidSOS to design, ship, and evolve complex, high-stakes products with clarity and confidence. You will lead large, cross-portfolio initiatives while defining systems, standards, and governance that allow our design team to scale effectively. You’ll tackle ambiguous, high-impact problems, designing systems and experiences that are reliable, scalable, and optimized for mission-critical decision-making, while establishing design standards, patterns, and practices that elevate the team and sustain quality over time.

Partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Design leadership, you will define how real-time data, mapping, and AI-driven intelligence is designed, integrated, and experienced across the platform. This includes shaping how AI supports human decision-making, how trust and transparency are established, and how quality and consistency are maintained as the platform grows. If you thrive at the intersection of strategy, systems, and execution, are energized by ambiguity, deeply thoughtful about responsible AI, and committed to building tools and processes that help both users and teams succeed in critical moments, this is your opportunity to help define the future of public safety technology!

What you’ll do:

  • Design, prototype, and test large, AI-first cross-portfolio initiatives, shaping end-to-end platform experiences that span products, teams, and user workflows across RapidSOS
  • Define and evolve AI-forward design strategy, including how AI-driven capabilities are integrated into the platform, governed responsibly, and designed to support human decision-making in high-stakes environments
  • Establish and operationalize design systems, standards, and reusable patterns across the RapidSOS ecosystem, while defining AI design principles, review practices, and collaboration models that guide decision-making, maintain design quality, and enable scalable, consistent, and effective design across teams
  • Help define and improve design ways of working, including collaboration models, prototyping, AI tools, design reviews, quality bars, and decision-making frameworks that enable the team to scale effectively
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Design leadership to influence roadmaps, prioritization, and investment decisions through systems thinking and user-centered insight
  • Lead end-to-end design for complex data- and map-based experiences from early discovery through launch and iteration, ensuring geospatial, real-time, and AI-driven information is clear, trustworthy, and actionable under pressure
  • Design intuitive workflows and high-quality interfaces that balance usability, scalability, and technical feasibility to deliver exceptional user experiences
  • Conduct and leverage user research, product analytics, and customer feedback to guide data-driven design decisions
  • Act as a design leader and multiplier by mentoring designers, modeling strong craft and judgment, and raising the overall bar for design quality, rigor, and impact

What we’re looking for in our ideal candidate:

  • 10+ years of product design experience working on complex products, platforms, or systems, ideally within the enterprise B2B space, with demonstrated impact beyond a single team or feature area
  • Proven ability to operate independently at a strategy and systems level, leading large, ambiguous problem spaces and translating them into scalable design solutions
  • Experience designing AI- or ML-enabled products, including human-in-the-loop workflows, decision support, or automation, and complex data-rich interfaces where clarity, reliability, and speed are essential
  • Proficiency with research tools, design software (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite), usability and user testing platforms
  • Experience designing reusable, composable components and patterns within or alongside a design system
  • Demonstrated experience leading user research–qualitative and quantitative–and partnering closely with Product and Engineering to shape platform-level strategy and roadmaps with these insights
  • Deep systems thinking skills, with experience defining patterns, frameworks, or standards that scale across products and teams
  • Demonstrated ability to shape design practices, quality standards, and cross-functional ways of working, with curiosity about emerging technologies and AI
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, able to clearly articulate complex design decisions and tradeoffs to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience mentoring designers and raising the overall quality and impact of the design organization
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% for internal team gatherings and customer research

Nice-to-have experience (but not required!):

  • Experience designing products in high-stakes or regulated domains such as public safety, healthcare, transportation, or critical infrastructure
  • Experience designing interfaces that support call takers or voice-centric operational roles
  • Degree in HCI, Human Factors, User Experience, or equivalent
  • Experience with GIS, cartography, mapping, or designing geospatial visualizations

What we offer:

  • The chance to work with a passionate team on solving one of the largest challenges globally
  • Competitive salary and benefits and equity participation
  • A dynamic, flexible and fun start-up work environment with a highly talented team

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
