About Waterfall

Do you like to help solve difficult technical problems? Are you a team-oriented, mission-driven, and solutions-oriented leader interested in helping fix an exciting part of the health care ecosystem?  We are an early stage, VC-backed healthcare technology startup on a mission to transform how payers and providers collaborate to deliver value-based care. With a focus on filling the void on how payers gain insights in their relationships with their contracted providers and vendors, we are creating the next-generation technology solution for insurers to better manage the complexity that these contracts bring to make these relationships more efficient and successful for all parties. Our leadership team blends deep healthcare executive expertise with operational success in our prior health care roles.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Head of Technology (reporting to the CEO) who brings deep healthcare domain knowledge—specifically around insurance claims data—combined with the technical chops to lead engineering and data science teams in building robust, scalable software products. A understanding of alternative payment models (APMs) is a bonus but not a prerequisite.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will hire our initial technical team, shape the architecture of our platform, guide the team’s technical execution, and roll up your sleeves to code and build alongside the team relative to your expertise. You will be instrumental in driving technical innovation, data normalization efforts, leveraging AI across our technical and product solutions, and aligning technology initiatives with our broader business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Own and evolve the technology vision, architecture, and execution roadmap across our core platform.
  • Hands-On Development: Actively contribute to system design, coding, and data engineering when necessary.
  • Claims Data Expertise: Lead efforts to ingest, normalize, and analyze large volumes of insurance claims data from diverse sources (EDI, FHIR, etc.).
  • Team Management: Build and mentor a small but growing team of software engineers and data scientists; foster a high-performance, collaborative culture.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Experience working in and/or leading cross-functional development teams for successful enterprise SaaS applications, working closely with Product and Commercial leads in defining roadmaps and priorities and ensuring scalable product development.
  • Scalability & Reliability: Design systems that are scalable, secure, and performant across high volumes of healthcare data with robust infrastructure.
  • Collaborative Strategy: Partner with product, clinical, and business stakeholders to define and deliver features that meet real customer needs.
  • Value-Based Care Enablement: Integrate and operationalize alternative payment models (e.g., shared savings, bundled payments, capitation) into the platform's core data workflows.
  • Vendor & Tooling Decisions: Evaluate and implement relevant third-party tools and cloud services (AWS, GCP, etc.) to accelerate development.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure systems meet healthcare regulatory standards (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC2, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Healthcare Tech Experience: 10+ years in technical roles with ideally 3+ years handling insurance claims data. Experience with alternative payment models is not a pre-requisite, but a bonus.
  • Technical Depth: Strong programming experience in Python, Java or  similar backend languages. Familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure and data pipelines.
  • Data Engineering: Deep experience in working with large-scale data systems, data normalization, and healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, X12/EDI).
  • Leadership: Demonstrated success leading and growing high-performing technical teams in startup or growth stage companies. Ability to attract and recruit top talent, motivate the team, delegate effectively, and manage performance. Leads by example and drives the organization's performance with an attitude of continuous improvement.
  • Start-Up Mentality: Comfortable in fast-paced, ambiguous environments. Resourceful and hands-on. Creativity, problem solving, innovative and able adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to convey technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.

Personal Traits

  • Team oriented
  • Collaborative, versatile and accountable
  • Strong process and execution mindset
  • Motivated and motivating
  • Leads with integrity and inspires trust
  • Effective communicator
  • Not afraid to have fun

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
